Bookkeeper Jobs in Cleveland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a bookkeeper job in Cleveland?
Cleveland's strongest hiring comes from healthcare networks, regional manufacturers, professional services firms, and nonprofits, particularly those based downtown and in the Midtown and Ohio City corridors. Candidates who stand out typically hold at least an associate degree in accounting, have hands-on experience with QuickBooks or Sage, and can show comfort with accounts payable and payable cycles. Targeting mid-size regional employers and local CPA firms often yields faster results than chasing large national postings.
Which companies hire bookkeepers in Cleveland?
Cleveland bookkeeper roles are posted by Oracle, Benesch Law, and Middough and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The local market leans toward healthcare organizations, regional law and accounting firms, and family-owned manufacturing companies that maintain in-house finance teams.
Are there remote bookkeeper jobs in Cleveland?
Yes, though availability depends on the role. Bookkeeping lends itself to remote and hybrid arrangements when the work is primarily digital, but positions requiring cash handling, on-site payroll processing, or physical records management tend to be fully in-person. About 70% of bookkeeper openings tied to Cleveland are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the most flexibility found in roles supporting professional services, consulting, and technology-adjacent firms.
How can I get a bookkeeper job in Cleveland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Cleveland is targeting accounts payable or accounts receivable clerk roles at regional manufacturers, healthcare billing departments, or nonprofit organizations, all of which regularly hire candidates with limited direct bookkeeping experience. Cuyahoga Community College offers accounting certificate programs that local employers recognize. Demonstrating proficiency in QuickBooks and basic spreadsheet skills can offset a thinner resume, and smaller Ohio City or Tremont businesses often prefer local candidates willing to grow into the role.
Which industries hire the most bookkeepers in Cleveland?
Cleveland bookkeeper roles concentrate in Automotive and Manufacturing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Cleveland's large hospital systems, deep manufacturing base, and active nonprofit sector create consistent demand for bookkeeping across organizations of every size.
