Position Summary:
The Director of Marketing provides firmwide strategic leadership for marketing, branding, communications, and integrated campaigns that support the firm’s business objectives, practice priorities, and client development efforts.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Marketing oversees marketing communications, marketing operations, marketing technology, and marketing data management, ensuring the firm’s marketing function is strategic, scalable, data driven, and operationally sound.
The Director of Marketing works closely with firm leadership, practice leaders, and business development to translate business goals into effective marketing strategies while maintaining governance, operational discipline, and measurable results.
Key Responsibilities:
Marketing Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute firmwide and practice specific marketing strategies aligned with the firm’s strategic plan and growth objectives.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to firm leadership, practice leaders, and business development on marketing positioning, campaigns, and investments.
- Ensure marketing initiatives are prioritized, scalable, and aligned with firmwide goals and governance standards.
- Partner closely with Business Development, Events, and Communications to ensure cohesive planning, execution, and follow through of marketing campaigns.
Marketing Communications & Brand Management
- Oversee all marketing communications, including firmwide messaging, external communications, digital content, PR support, and internal marketing communications.
- Act as steward of the firm’s brand, ensuring consistency in messaging, tone, and visual identity across all channels and materials.
- Ensure compliance with brand guidelines, messaging standards, and professional responsibility requirements.
- Collaborate with attorneys and leadership to refine and communicate the firm’s value proposition and market differentiation.
- Ensure branded merchandise and client gift programs are used strategically, cost effectively, and in support of client development and relationship building efforts.
Marketing Operations & Process Excellence
- Oversee marketing operations, including workflows, project management, resource allocation, and quality control across the marketing function.
- Establish and maintain efficient, repeatable processes that support consistency, scalability, and timely delivery.
- Manage expectations and timelines with attorneys and stakeholders while maintaining high standards of execution and professionalism.
- Ensure marketing activities adhere to firm policies, procedures, and governance requirements.
Marketing Technology & Digital Infrastructure
- Provide strategic oversight of marketing technology platforms and tools, including CRM integrations, email marketing, website, analytics, and digital marketing systems.
- Partner with IT, Business Development, and external vendors to optimize marketing technology solutions and ensure effective adoption.
- Identify opportunities to leverage technology to improve targeting, automation, reporting, and overall marketing effectiveness.
Marketing Data, Analytics & Reporting
- Oversee marketing data management to ensure accuracy, integrity, and effective use of marketing and client data.
- Analyze and report on marketing performance, engagement, and ROI to inform strategic decision making.
- Use data and insights to continuously refine strategies, improve outcomes, and guide investment decisions.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop marketing professionals across communications, operations, technology, and campaign functions.
- Foster a collaborative, team oriented culture focused on accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with Business Development, Events, Practice Management, IT, and Firm Leadership to deliver integrated solutions.
Operational & Financial Stewardship
- Oversee marketing budgets and vendor relationships, ensuring responsible use of resources and alignment with firm priorities.
- Ensure marketing initiatives are delivered efficiently and within approved budgets.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, accuracy, and compliance across all marketing deliverables.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications or related field.
- Previous experience with law firms (preferred).
- Extensive knowledge of various aspects of marketing, including brand marketing, PR, content management, social media marketing, and digital marketing.
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed.
