Business Data Analyst Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business data analyst in Minnesota?
Business data analyst is not a state-licensed profession in Minnesota, so there is no board exam or state registration required. Most employers in the Twin Cities and Rochester expect a bachelor's degree in business analytics, information systems, statistics, or a closely related field. Earning a vendor-recognized certification in Tableau, Microsoft Power BI, or SQL strengthens a candidacy considerably. Many analysts enter through finance, operations, or IT roles at large Minnesota employers before moving into dedicated analytics positions.
Which companies hire business data analysts in Minnesota?
Minnesota business data analyst roles are posted by jamf, Baxter, and Target and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minnesota's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters in retail, healthcare, and financial services means that large-employer opportunities tend to be especially consistent here compared with many other Midwest states.
Which Minnesota cities have the most business data analyst jobs?
Minneapolis, Eagan, and Rochester hold the most business data analyst openings in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro dominates because it anchors the headquarters of major retailers, health insurance companies, and financial institutions that run large analytics teams, while Rochester's openings are driven primarily by the healthcare and biomedical research activity centered on Mayo Clinic and its affiliated organizations.
Are there remote business data analyst jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than most fields. Business data analyst work is largely desk-based and output-driven, which makes it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 83% of business data analyst openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly employers have adopted flexible models for this role. Reporting, modeling, and dashboard work are the tasks most consistently done fully remote.
How can I get hired as a business data analyst in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or junior analyst role at a large Minnesota employer, where structured onboarding replaces the experience requirement. Target, UnitedHealth Group, and Ameriprise Financial each run rotational or new-graduate analyst programs that accept candidates with strong academic records and foundational SQL or Excel skills. A portfolio of two or three completed projects, even from coursework, matters more than years of experience. Lateral entry from adjacent roles like business operations coordinator or financial reporting associate is also common in the Twin Cities market.
Where can I find and apply to business data analyst jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to business data analyst jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
