There is no state-issued license for this role in Illinois. Employers typically expect proficiency in SQL and at least one major BI platform. Vendor certifications from Microsoft, Tableau, or Google are widely recognized by Illinois hiring managers and can strengthen a candidate's profile alongside practical project experience.
How much do business intelligence analysts make in Illinois?
Business intelligence analysts in Illinois earn a median of about $106,560 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $68,810 for the lowest 10% to over $168,880 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business intelligence analysts in Illinois?

Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters in the Chicago area, particularly in financial services, insurance, and retail, makes it one of the more active BI hiring markets in the Midwest.
Which Illinois cities have the most business intelligence analyst jobs?
Chicago, Itasca, and Addison account for the largest share of business intelligence analyst openings in Illinois. Chicago's dense concentration of corporate headquarters in finance, healthcare, and retail drives the bulk of demand, while Schaumburg and Naperville attract significant BI hiring through the large suburban campuses of insurers, technology firms, and consumer goods companies headquartered along the I-90 and I-88 corridors.

Yes, and more than most fields. About 81% of business intelligence analyst openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how naturally this desk-based, software-driven role adapts to distributed work. How can I get hired as a business intelligence analyst in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior data analyst or reporting analyst role, which many large Illinois employers use as a feeder position into full BI work. Companies like Allstate and Walgreens run rotational analytics programs and structured new-grad pipelines. Building a portfolio of SQL queries and Tableau or Power BI dashboards using public datasets is the credential that moves candidates past the experience threshold.
