Business Systems Engineer Jobs in Alaska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business systems engineer in Alaska?
Most business systems engineer roles in Alaska require a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, business administration, or industrial engineering. Alaska does not mandate a state-issued license specific to this role, but employers in the energy and defense sectors frequently expect certifications like PMP, CBAP, or ITIL. Building experience with large enterprise systems used by Alaska's dominant industries, particularly oil and gas and government IT, strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do business systems engineers make in Alaska?
Business systems engineers in Alaska earn a median of about $88,520 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,440 for the lowest 10% to over $124,600 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business systems engineers in Alaska?
Alaska business systems engineer roles are posted by Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, Peraton, and Goldbelt and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alaska's energy production, federal defense contracting, and state government operations are the primary forces behind sustained employer demand.
Which Alaska cities have the most business systems engineer jobs?
Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks have the most business systems engineer openings in Alaska. Anchorage drives the majority of postings as the state's commercial and government hub, while Fairbanks benefits from its proximity to Fort Wainwright and Eielson Air Force Base, and Juneau reflects demand from state agency IT operations and regional administrative functions.
Are there remote business systems engineer jobs in Alaska?
Yes, and more than most fields, since business systems engineering is largely analytical and desk-based work that transfers well to remote settings. About 0% of business systems engineer openings tied to Alaska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how broadly this role is compatible with distributed work. Requirements gathering, documentation, and systems analysis are the portions most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a business systems engineer in Alaska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a business analyst, systems analyst, or IT support role with one of Alaska's large institutional employers, such as state agencies, the University of Alaska system, or federal contractors operating in Anchorage or Fairbanks. These organizations occasionally run associate IT or analyst development programs for new graduates. Earning a CBAP associate credential or completing an ERP-specific training course adds concrete credibility when your work history is limited, and lateral moves from project coordinator or data analyst roles are a recognized route in.
