Project Management Consultant Jobs in Alaska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project management consultant in Alaska?
The most direct path is earning a bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field and then obtaining the Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute, which most Alaska employers treat as the baseline credential. Alaska does not have a separate state-issued project management license, but consultants working on engineering-adjacent scopes may need to coordinate with Alaska-licensed engineers under the State of Alaska Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors.
How much do project management consultants make in Alaska?
Project management consultants in Alaska earn a median of about $99,580 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,360 for the lowest 10% to over $160,710 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project management consultants in Alaska?
Companies currently hiring project management consultants in Alaska include American Traveler, Goldbelt, and Ryder System, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alaska's dominant industries of oil and gas, federal infrastructure, and state government mean consulting demand is concentrated in energy operators, engineering firms, and contractors working on large capital programs.
Which Alaska cities have the most project management consultant jobs?
Juneau, Anchorage, and Sitka have the most project management consultant openings in Alaska. Anchorage drives the majority of postings as the state's commercial and administrative center, home to major energy operators, federal agencies, and engineering firms, while Fairbanks and Juneau generate demand through regional infrastructure programs and state government contracting activity.
Are there remote project management consultant jobs in Alaska?
Yes, and more than many field-based roles, since much of the consultant work around planning, scheduling, and reporting can be done remotely. About 20% of project management consultant openings tied to Alaska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, though roles tied to active construction or pipeline operations typically require on-site presence at least part of the time. The most remote-friendly sub-areas are program controls, risk management, and stakeholder reporting.
How can I get hired as a project management consultant in Alaska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a project coordinator or project controls analyst at an Alaska engineering firm or state agency, roles that give you direct exposure to scheduling, budgeting, and contractor oversight. Large Alaska employers such as AECOM and state infrastructure agencies periodically hire entry-level coordinators who can grow into consulting roles. Earning your Certified Associate in Project Management credential before applying signals readiness and gives you a clear edge over candidates with no formal credential.
Where can I find and apply to project management consultant jobs in Alaska?
