Project Management Consultant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project management consultant in Texas?
Most project management consultants in Texas enter the field with a bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related discipline, then earn the Project Management Professional certification through the Project Management Institute. Texas does not require a state-issued license to practice project management consulting. Large Texas consulting firms and energy companies typically expect PMP certification alongside several years of direct project delivery experience before promoting someone to a consulting title.
How much do project management consultants make in Texas?
Project management consultants in Texas earn a median of about $98,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,460 for the lowest 10% to over $162,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project management consultants in Texas?
Employers hiring project management consultants in Texas right now include Alvarez & Marsal, Terracon Consultants, and Infosys, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy headquarters, defense contractors, and large healthcare systems means demand is spread across several distinct industries rather than a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most project management consultant jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Austin have the most project management consultant openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense cluster of energy, engineering, and petrochemical firms, while Dallas-Fort Worth draws volume from corporate headquarters, financial services, and large technology campuses, and Austin's growing tech sector and state government agencies contribute a steady share of openings.
Are there remote project management consultant jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many fields, since a significant portion of project management consulting work involves planning, reporting, and stakeholder coordination that translates well to remote settings. About 28% of project management consultant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed client teams have become. Roles focused on IT transformation and program governance tend to be the most remote-compatible, while capital construction and on-site plant projects typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a project management consultant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project coordinator or project administrator role, which large Texas employers in energy, healthcare, and government contracting use as a feeder position into full consulting titles. Firms like Jacobs, Burns and McDonnell, and large hospital systems such as HCA Houston Healthcare hire project support staff who grow into consultant roles. Earning a Certified Associate in Project Management credential from the Project Management Institute gives early-career candidates a concrete credential that Texas hiring managers recognize.
Where can I find and apply to project management consultant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to project management consultant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers across the state's major industries. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the ones that match.
