Certified Pharmacy Technician Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a certified pharmacy technician in Maryland?
To work as a pharmacy technician in Maryland, you must register with the Maryland Board of Pharmacy before beginning practice. Most employers require national certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), and Maryland accepts both credentials. Candidates typically complete a high school diploma or equivalent, followed by on-the-job training or a formal pharmacy technician program at a Maryland community college such as CCBC or Montgomery College.
Which companies hire certified pharmacy technicians in Maryland?
Companies currently hiring certified pharmacy technicians in Maryland include Walgreens, Walmart, and Harris Teeter, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's concentration of academic medical centers and large retail pharmacy networks means openings are distributed across both clinical and community settings throughout the state.
Which Maryland cities have the most certified pharmacy technician jobs?
Baltimore, Olney, and Berlin have the most certified pharmacy technician openings in Maryland. Baltimore drives the largest share of listings thanks to its dense network of hospital systems and academic medical institutions, while Silver Spring and Rockville benefit from proximity to major suburban retail pharmacy corridors and specialty outpatient clinics serving the DC metropolitan area.
Are there remote certified pharmacy technician jobs in Maryland?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of certified pharmacy technician openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, because most tasks require direct handling of medications, equipment, or patients on-site. The roles most likely to offer any remote component are prior authorization review, medication therapy management coordination, and pharmacy benefits verification positions.
How can I get hired as a certified pharmacy technician in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to pharmacy technician trainee or apprentice roles at large retail pharmacy chains and hospital systems, where on-the-job training is built into the position. University of Maryland Medical System and Johns Hopkins Health System both hire entry-level pharmacy technicians who are eligible to sit for national certification within their first year. Completing a pharmacy technician program at a Maryland community college and obtaining your Maryland Board of Pharmacy registration before applying gives candidates a clear edge over those who have not yet registered.
Where can I find and apply to certified pharmacy technician jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to certified pharmacy technician jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings updated regularly.
