How do you become a certified pharmacy technician in Mississippi?
To work as a certified pharmacy technician in Mississippi, you must register with the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Most employers also require national certification through the PTCB or NHA before or shortly after hire. Completing an accredited pharmacy technician training program, whether through a community college like Hinds Community College or a hospital-based program, strengthens your application and often satisfies the training requirement for registration.
Which companies hire certified pharmacy technicians in Mississippi?

Hospital systems and long-term care networks across the state also hire on a rolling basis, particularly in the Jackson metro and along the Gulf Coast.
Which Mississippi cities have the most certified pharmacy technician jobs?
Gulfport, Oxford, and Flowood have the most certified pharmacy technician openings in Mississippi. Jackson anchors the largest share of hospital and specialty pharmacy roles given its concentration of health systems and medical facilities, while Gulfport and Hattiesburg support strong retail and outpatient pharmacy hiring driven by their growing suburban populations and regional medical centers.
Are there remote certified pharmacy technician jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of certified pharmacy technician openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how hands-on most pharmacy work is by nature. The roles most likely to offer any remote component are specialty pharmacy call center positions, prior authorization support, and medication therapy management coordination.
How can I get hired as a certified pharmacy technician in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to retail pharmacy chains that hire and train candidates on the job, with CVS Health and Walmart Pharmacy both running structured technician training programs at Mississippi locations. Externship placements through Hinds Community College or Pearl River Community College can substitute for prior experience. Completing your PTCB or NHA exam before applying gives you a clear hiring edge, and entry roles such as pharmacy clerk or pharmacy aide at hospitals like St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson often transition into full technician positions within six to twelve months.
