Chief Administrative Officer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a chief administrative officer in Texas?
Most chief administrative officers in Texas reach the role through a combination of a bachelor's degree in business, public administration, or a related field, followed by years of progressively senior operations leadership. Texas does not issue a state license specific to this title, but candidates in healthcare administration benefit from holding a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives credential, which Texas hospital systems and health networks strongly favor. Building experience across finance, HR, and operations functions within Texas institutions is the most reliable path.
How much do chief administrative officers make in Texas?
Chief administrative officers in Texas earn a median of about $257,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $121,130 for the lowest 10% to over $558,550 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire chief administrative officers in Texas?
Employers hiring chief administrative officers in Texas right now include Encompass Health, Houston Methodist, and Baylor Scott & White Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of major healthcare networks, large public universities, and Fortune 500 energy and technology headquarters makes it one of the more active states for this senior leadership role.
Which Texas cities have the most chief administrative officer jobs?
Houston, Fort Worth, and Galveston have the most chief administrative officer openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense concentration of major hospital systems, energy corporations, and port-related logistics organizations, while Dallas draws demand from corporate headquarters and large financial services firms, and Austin's fast-growing technology sector and state government agencies drive a consistent pipeline of administrative leadership roles.
Are there remote chief administrative officer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical roles, because chief administrative officers typically oversee facilities, in-person teams, and on-site operations. About 5% of chief administrative officer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be at organizations where policy, compliance, and strategic coordination can be handled without daily on-site presence. Technology companies and certain shared-services divisions within large Texas enterprises are the most likely sources of remote or hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a chief administrative officer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a record in an adjacent operations role, such as administrative director, operations manager, or department head, within a large Texas employer before stepping into a CAO title. Texas Health Resources, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the Texas A&M University System all run leadership development and administrative residency programs aimed at developing internal talent without requiring prior executive titles. Earning a Master of Public Administration or MBA at a Texas institution accelerates advancement, and candidates who can demonstrate measurable results in budget management or process improvement gain a clear edge.
