Chief Operating Officer Jobs in Indianapolis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a chief operating officer job in Indianapolis?
The strongest path in Indianapolis runs through its dominant sectors: healthcare systems, third-party logistics, advanced manufacturing, and regional financial services firms. Candidates who combine P&L ownership experience with supply chain or operational turnaround credentials stand out in this market. Concentrating your search on Downtown, North Meridian Street, and the Castleton area gives you access to the highest density of corporate headquarters and regional division offices actively filling COO-level roles.
Which companies hire chief operating officers in Indianapolis?
Companies currently hiring chief operating officers in Indianapolis include Eli Lilly, Information Technology Senior Management Forum, and Salesforce, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Indianapolis attracts a mix of large healthcare networks, regional insurers, logistics operators, and mid-market manufacturers, all of which regularly search for senior operations leadership at the COO level.
Are there remote chief operating officer jobs in Indianapolis?
Yes, though the role is largely in-person by nature given its hands-on operational and leadership responsibilities. About 33% of chief operating officer openings tied to Indianapolis are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, skewing toward technology-enabled businesses and professional services firms. When remote or hybrid arrangements do appear locally, they most often cover strategic planning, performance reporting, and cross-functional team coordination rather than plant-floor or facilities-dependent duties.
How can I get a chief operating officer job in Indianapolis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Indianapolis is moving up through director-level operations, supply chain, or clinical operations roles at the city's large healthcare networks or logistics companies before stepping into a COO title. Indianapolis employers in high-growth logistics and healthcare frequently promote internal candidates who have managed multi-site teams or led process improvement initiatives. Building exposure to P&L management and cross-departmental leadership within those organizations is what typically bridges the gap to a first COO appointment locally.
Which industries hire the most chief operating officers in Indianapolis?
Most chief operating officer openings in Indianapolis sit in Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Technology & Software, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Indianapolis's identity as a healthcare hub, a major Midwest logistics center, and a growing financial services market means those sectors consistently generate the largest share of senior operations leadership searches in the city.
