Which companies hire civil engineers in Missouri?
Companies currently hiring civil engineers in Missouri include Burns & McDonnell, CRAWFORD, MURPHY & TILLY, and Sargent & Lundy, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's strong transportation and municipal infrastructure investment keeps demand steady across both private engineering firms and public agencies throughout the state.
Which Missouri cities have the most civil engineer jobs?
Kansas City, St. Louis, and Clayton lead Missouri for civil engineer openings. Kansas City and St. Louis drive most of the volume through large infrastructure, commercial development, and utility projects, while Columbia generates consistent demand from state government work, University of Missouri construction programs, and regional transportation projects that extend into mid-Missouri.
Are there remote civil engineer jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. About 50% of civil engineer openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, which reflects the hands-on, site-dependent nature of most civil engineering work. The portions of the role most compatible with remote work include preliminary design, calculations, report writing, and plan review, while field inspections, site visits, and construction administration typically require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a civil engineer in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to internship or new-graduate engineer programs at large Missouri employers such as Burns & McDonnell, the Missouri Department of Transportation, or municipal public works departments in Kansas City and St. Louis. Entry-level titles like engineering technician or project engineer associate are common starting points. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam before graduation gives candidates a clear edge, and building a portfolio of design coursework or senior capstone projects strengthens applications at firms that recruit from Missouri University of Science and Technology and the University of Missouri.
