Clinical Data Management Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a clinical data management in California?
A bachelor's degree in life sciences, health informatics, or a related field is the standard entry point for clinical data management roles in California. No state-issued license is required, but the Society for Clinical Data Management offers the Certified Clinical Data Manager credential, which California employers recognize as a professional benchmark. Most California biotech and pharma companies also look for hands-on experience with industry-standard platforms and CDISC standards before extending offers.
Which companies hire clinical data managements in California?
Employers hiring clinical data managements in California right now include Revolution Medicines, Exelixis, and UC Davis Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's deep concentration of biotech, pharmaceutical, and contract research organizations means hiring activity is consistent across both large headquarters and mid-size clinical-stage companies throughout the Bay Area and San Diego.
Which California cities have the most clinical data management jobs?
Redwood City, Alameda, and Pleasanton are the California cities with the most clinical data management openings. The San Francisco Bay Area leads because it is home to major pharmaceutical and biotech headquarters, while San Diego's strong cluster of clinical-stage biotech firms and contract research organizations drives steady demand, and Los Angeles draws volume from a growing number of life sciences campuses and hospital-affiliated research programs.
Are there remote clinical data management jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most clinical roles, since clinical data management work is primarily desk-based and does not require on-site patient contact. About 22% of clinical data management openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well the work translates to distributed teams. Database builds, edit check programming, and data review activities are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a clinical data management in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate clinical data coordinator role, which large California contract research organizations and mid-size biotech companies post regularly for candidates coming directly from life sciences or health informatics degree programs. Companies such as ICON and Labcorp Drug Development run associate-level CDM programs that accept new graduates. Building proficiency in Medidata Rave or a comparable platform through a certificate course and earning the SCDM's entry-level credential strengthens a California application considerably even without commercial experience.
Where can I find and apply to clinical data management jobs in California?
You can find and apply to clinical data management jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
