Clinical Research Assistant Jobs in Richmond: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a clinical research assistant job in Richmond?
Richmond's strongest hiring comes from academic medical centers anchored near the VCU Health campus, contract research organizations operating out of the Short Pump and West End corridors, and biotech sponsors clustered around the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park downtown. Candidates who stand out typically hold a CCRP credential or have completed GCP training, and those with hands-on coordinators experience in oncology or cardiology trials have a clear edge in Richmond's competitive CRA market.
Which companies hire clinical research assistants in Richmond?
Employers hiring clinical research assistants in Richmond right now include Virginia Commonwealth University, ObjectiveHealth, and AbbVie, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Richmond's hiring pool is a mix of large academic health systems, mid-size contract research organizations, and specialty pharmaceutical sponsors with regional study sites.
Are there remote clinical research assistant jobs in Richmond?
Yes, though with limits: hands-on roles requiring patient contact or on-site monitoring are almost always in person, while data entry, regulatory document management, and sponsor communication work can be done remotely. About 52% of clinical research assistant openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, skewing toward roles at larger CROs with distributed study teams. Regulatory affairs and data coordination tracks within Richmond organizations tend to offer the most flexible arrangements.
How can I get a clinical research assistant job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Richmond is through the VCU Health system, which regularly hires research coordinators-in-training and study support staff with a bachelor's in a health or life science field. Community oncology practices and smaller CRO satellite offices in the West End also hire entry-level assistants for patient scheduling and source document work. Completing an online GCP certification and volunteering with VCU's IRB or a local clinical site gives Richmond applicants a concrete edge over candidates with equivalent academic backgrounds.
Which industries hire the most clinical research assistants in Richmond?
The sectors hiring the most clinical research assistants in Richmond are Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Richmond's concentration of academic medical infrastructure, CRO regional offices, and a growing biomanufacturing base near the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park drives consistent demand across all three sectors.
