Cloud Architect Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cloud architect in Pennsylvania?
Cloud architecture has no state-issued license in Pennsylvania, so the path runs through education, certifications, and hands-on experience. Most Pennsylvania employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field alongside a professional cloud certification from AWS, Microsoft, or Google. Candidates typically spend several years in roles like cloud engineer or systems administrator before moving into architect positions at firms in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, or the Route 202 technology corridor.
How much do cloud architects make in Pennsylvania?
Cloud architects in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $131,840 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,240 for the lowest 10% to over $188,120 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cloud architects in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring cloud architects in Pennsylvania right now include SAP, Allocore, and Deloitte, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large health systems, financial institutions, and defense contractors means many of these openings require experience with regulated data environments and compliance frameworks.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most cloud architect jobs?
Pennsylvania, Radnor, and Malvern lead Pennsylvania for cloud architect openings. Philadelphia drives volume through its large financial services and healthcare sectors, while Pittsburgh's anchor institutions in healthcare and robotics research generate consistent demand, and suburban markets like Malvern and King of Prussia attract openings from technology and defense firms headquartered along the Route 202 corridor.
Are there remote cloud architect jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 83% of cloud architect openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and platform-focused nature of the work. Architecture, design review, and cloud governance responsibilities translate well to fully remote arrangements, though roles that involve data center coordination or on-site regulated environments tend to require at least a hybrid presence.
How can I get hired as a cloud architect in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a cloud engineer or DevOps administrator role, which large Pennsylvania employers such as UPMC, Comcast, and major defense contractors regularly hire without requiring prior architect titles. Earning an associate-level certification from AWS or Microsoft while building a portfolio of infrastructure-as-code projects signals readiness to move up. Graduate programs at Carnegie Mellon, Penn State, and Drexel also connect candidates directly with local employers through co-op and practicum pipelines.
Where can I find and apply to cloud architect jobs in Pennsylvania?
