Cloud Infrastructure Engineer Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cloud infrastructure engineer in Washington?
Cloud infrastructure engineering has no state-issued license in Washington, so the path centers on education and industry credentials. Most hiring managers in Washington expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or software engineering, though candidates with associate degrees who hold current cloud certifications from AWS, Microsoft, or Google Cloud are competitive. Building hands-on lab experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines and contributing to open-source infrastructure projects strengthens any application in Washington's technology-dense market.
How much do cloud infrastructure engineers make in Washington?
Cloud infrastructure engineers in Washington earn a median of about $128,940 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,210 for the lowest 10% to over $200,610 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cloud infrastructure engineers in Washington?
Employers hiring cloud infrastructure engineers in Washington right now include Google, Brex, and Okta, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's concentration of cloud-native technology headquarters, aerospace firms, and federal contractors means sustained hiring depth well beyond the region's largest names.
Which Washington cities have the most cloud infrastructure engineer jobs?
Seattle, Kirkland, and Bellevue lead Washington for cloud infrastructure engineer openings. Seattle and Bellevue dominate because they are home to the global headquarters of Amazon Web Services and Microsoft, which directly employ large infrastructure teams and anchor a dense ecosystem of cloud-dependent vendors and enterprise clients, while Redmond's deep Microsoft campus drives consistent demand for infrastructure roles in both core cloud products and internal platform teams.
Are there remote cloud infrastructure engineer jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 100% of cloud infrastructure engineer openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well the work translates to distributed environments. Roles focused on infrastructure-as-code, platform architecture, and cloud cost optimization are the most consistently remote, while positions requiring hands-on data center access or on-site government security clearance work tend to be in-person.
How can I get hired as a cloud infrastructure engineer in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a cloud support or junior site reliability role, which large Washington employers including Amazon and Microsoft actively fill through new-graduate and associate programs. Candidates transitioning from systems administration, network operations, or IT helpdesk roles are strong applicants because the infrastructure knowledge transfers directly. Earning an entry-level cloud certification from AWS or Azure and building a portfolio of Terraform or Ansible projects on GitHub gives Washington hiring teams something concrete to evaluate before a first interview.
Where can I find and apply to cloud infrastructure engineer jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to cloud infrastructure engineer jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the employers posting them.
