QA Engineer Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a qa engineer in Washington?
QA engineering in Washington has no state-issued license or registration requirement, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skills. Most Washington employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, though some accept an associate degree paired with a strong portfolio. Earning a recognized certification such as ISTQB Foundation strengthens a candidacy and is commonly listed in Washington job postings alongside hands-on automation experience.
How much do QA engineers make in Washington?
QA engineers in Washington earn a median of about $128,480 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,180 for the lowest 10% to over $202,730 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire qa engineers in Washington?
Employers hiring qa engineers in Washington right now include Amazon, Providence, and State of Washington, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's outsized presence of enterprise software, cloud platforms, and aerospace manufacturers means qa engineer roles here tend to sit inside large, multi-team engineering organizations with well-defined quality processes.
Which Washington cities have the most qa engineer jobs?
Seattle, Redmond, and Kent lead Washington for qa engineer openings. Seattle and Bellevue concentrate the most postings because of the dense cluster of technology headquarters and cloud-services companies based there, while Redmond draws heavily from Microsoft's sprawling campus, and smaller hubs like Kirkland and Bothell contribute aerospace and biotech-related QA demand.
Are there remote qa engineer jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 42% of qa engineer openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how naturally the work fits a distributed model. Test case writing, automation scripting, code reviews, and defect triage all transfer cleanly to remote settings, though roles that involve hardware, embedded systems, or lab-based testing at aerospace or medical-device companies are more likely to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a qa engineer in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a junior QA analyst or software test engineer role at a mid-size Washington software company, where teams are small enough to onboard early-career candidates willing to learn automation on the job. Microsoft, Amazon, and Boeing all run rotational or new-grad associate programs that include QA tracks. Building a portfolio with personal automation projects using Selenium or Cypress, contributing to open-source test suites, and pairing that work with an ISTQB Foundation certification gives candidates a concrete edge over applicants without experience.
Where can I find and apply to qa engineer jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to qa engineer jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings across industries and experience levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly through the listings.
