QA Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a qa engineer in Texas?
There is no state-issued license required to work as a qa engineer in Texas, so entry is credential- and skill-driven. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Certifications like the ISTQB Foundation Level or CSTE designation strengthen a candidacy. Texas universities and community colleges offer software testing coursework, and completing a capstone or internship at a Texas tech employer is a common path into the field.
How much do QA engineers make in Texas?
QA engineers in Texas earn a median of about $101,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $59,010 for the lowest 10% to over $153,380 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire qa engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring qa engineers in Texas right now include Apple, Amazon, and Photon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of semiconductor firms, defense contractors, and fintech companies means qa roles here often combine hardware validation with software testing in ways less common in other states.
Which Texas cities have the most qa engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Plano have the most qa engineer openings in Texas. Austin's software and semiconductor ecosystem drives volume there, Dallas attracts fintech, telecom, and enterprise software employers, and Houston's energy technology and aerospace sectors generate consistent demand for embedded and systems QA roles.
Are there remote qa engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 13% of qa engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how naturally the role fits distributed teams. Functional and automation testing work that relies on code repositories and staging environments is the most consistently remote, while hardware-in-the-loop and on-site embedded validation roles typically require physical presence.
How can I get hired as a qa engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to associate QA analyst or junior test engineer roles at mid-size Texas software companies, which tend to hire candidates with a degree and a portfolio of test scripts over those with years of experience. Manual testing positions at Austin fintech firms and Dallas enterprise software houses frequently accept new graduates. An ISTQB Foundation certification and a GitHub portfolio demonstrating test case design give candidates a clear edge over other applicants at the same level.
Where can I find and apply to qa engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to qa engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly through the listings.
