QA Engineer Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a qa engineer in Ohio?
QA engineering in Ohio requires no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and demonstrated skills. Most Ohio employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or engineering, though candidates with associate degrees who hold recognized certifications like ISTQB Foundation Level are also competitive. Building a portfolio of test scripts and contributing to open-source projects strengthens applications considerably for Ohio's software and healthcare technology employers.
How much do QA engineers make in Ohio?
QA engineers in Ohio earn a median of about $98,000 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,340 for the lowest 10% to over $130,100 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire qa engineers in Ohio?
Employers hiring qa engineers in Ohio right now include Medpace, American Honda Motor, and DHL, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's concentration of insurance, healthcare, and manufacturing technology firms means many of the most active qa engineering openings sit with companies that maintain large internal development and compliance teams in the state.
Which Ohio cities have the most qa engineer jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland account for the largest share of qa engineer openings in Ohio. Columbus drives the most volume thanks to its dense cluster of insurance headquarters, fintech firms, and health technology companies, while Cleveland and Cincinnati contribute openings tied to manufacturing systems, medical devices, and regional financial services operations anchored in each metro.
Are there remote qa engineer jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most fields. QA engineering is heavily desk-based and tool-driven, making it well suited to remote work. About 29% of qa engineer openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly Ohio employers have accepted distributed quality teams. Test automation, API testing, and performance testing roles are the most consistently offered as fully remote positions.
How can I get hired as a qa engineer in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or junior QA role at one of Ohio's large software or healthcare technology employers, where structured onboarding is common. Companies like Nationwide in Columbus and Cleveland Clinic's digital health division run new-grad programs that include QA rotations. Candidates moving laterally from technical support, business analysis, or manual testing backgrounds are regularly considered, and earning ISTQB Foundation Level certification before applying gives Ohio hiring managers a concrete signal of readiness.
Where can I find and apply to qa engineer jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to qa engineer jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings updated regularly. Find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to each employer through the listing. No account creation is needed to search and apply.
