QA Engineer Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a qa engineer in North Carolina?
QA engineering in North Carolina does not require a state-issued license, so the path centers on education and demonstrated technical skill. Most employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline, though candidates who complete accredited bootcamps and build a strong testing portfolio can also compete. Earning vendor-neutral certifications such as the ISTQB Foundation Level strengthens applications considerably. North Carolina's Research Triangle and Charlotte markets tend to prioritize hands-on automation experience above all else.
How much do QA engineers make in North Carolina?
QA engineers in North Carolina earn a median of about $100,390 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,190 for the lowest 10% to over $148,710 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire qa engineers in North Carolina?
Employers hiring qa engineers in North Carolina right now include Food Lion, NV5, and MENTOR TECHNICAL, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. North Carolina's concentration of financial technology firms in Charlotte and life sciences companies in the Research Triangle means qa engineers with domain experience in regulated industries are especially sought after.
Which North Carolina cities have the most qa engineer jobs?
The cities with the most qa engineer openings in North Carolina are Charlotte, Durham, and Raleigh. The Research Triangle's dense cluster of software companies, university research spinouts, and pharmaceutical manufacturers drives the largest share of postings, while Charlotte's major financial institutions and Lenovo's North American headquarters anchor demand in the western part of the state.
Are there remote qa engineer jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, and more than most fields. Because qa engineering work centers on code review, automated test suites, and collaboration over digital tools, it translates well to remote environments. About 38% of qa engineer openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly distributed the talent pool and employer base have become. Automation-focused roles and those outside regulated hardware or medical device testing tend to offer the most remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a qa engineer in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate QA analyst role, which North Carolina employers in the Research Triangle and Charlotte regularly fill with recent graduates who can demonstrate scripting basics and a testing portfolio. Companies like Fidelity Investments and SAS Institute in Cary run structured new-graduate programs where candidates without direct qa titles can enter through developer associate or technical support tracks and rotate into quality roles. Completing the ISTQB Foundation certification and contributing to open-source test projects gives early-career candidates a concrete edge in screening.
Where can I find and apply to qa engineer jobs in North Carolina?
