QA Engineer Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a qa engineer in Pennsylvania?
QA engineering in Pennsylvania has no state-issued license, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most employers look for a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, though candidates with associate degrees and strong portfolios are hired regularly. Certifications such as the ISTQB Foundation Level credential carry weight with Pennsylvania employers in regulated sectors like healthcare IT and financial services, where structured testing practices are standard.
How much do QA engineers make in Pennsylvania?
QA engineers in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $93,030 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,970 for the lowest 10% to over $133,120 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire qa engineers in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring qa engineers in Pennsylvania right now include KeystoneCare, Sechan Electronics, and Zoll Medical Corporation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of large healthcare systems, defense contractors, and financial technology firms means steady qa engineering demand well beyond the major tech-only employers.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most qa engineer jobs?
Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Bethlehem account for the largest share of qa engineer openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because of its dense cluster of health systems, fintech firms, and enterprise software companies, while Pittsburgh's growing technology sector and presence of defense and robotics employers drive strong hiring there, and Harrisburg's state government agencies and regional insurance carriers support consistent demand in the capital region.
Are there remote qa engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most fields. QA engineering is well suited to remote work because testing, defect tracking, and automation development are largely screen-based tasks. About 45% of qa engineer openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly Pennsylvania employers have adopted flexible arrangements since the pandemic. Fully remote roles are most common in test automation and software QA, while hands-on hardware or embedded systems roles typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a qa engineer in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior or associate QA analyst role, which large Pennsylvania employers in healthcare IT and financial services post regularly for candidates transitioning from adjacent positions such as business analyst, technical support specialist, or software development intern. Building a portfolio of automated test scripts using open-source frameworks and earning the ISTQB Foundation Level certification signals readiness to Pennsylvania hiring managers. Philadelphia-area health systems and Pittsburgh technology companies frequently bring on candidates through rotational associate programs or contract-to-hire arrangements designed for early-career applicants.
Where can I find and apply to qa engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to qa engineer jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings updated in real time. Search the listings for roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
