Data Platform Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data platform engineer in Texas?
Data platform engineering has no state-issued license in Texas, so the path runs through education and demonstrated technical skill. Most Texas employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. From there, hands-on experience with cloud platforms and data pipeline tools matters most. Earning cloud certifications from AWS or Microsoft Azure strengthens a candidacy significantly, and Texas universities like UT Austin and Texas A&M produce strong pipelines of graduates entering this field.
How much do data platform engineers make in Texas?
Data platform engineers in Texas earn a median of about $151,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $92,890 for the lowest 10% to over $200,390 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire data platform engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring data platform engineers in Texas right now include Apple, HEB, and JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Texas's concentration of energy companies, financial institutions, and technology firms means demand is spread across a wider range of industries than in most other states.
Which Texas cities have the most data platform engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Plano have the most data platform engineer openings in Texas. Houston's demand is driven by its energy and petrochemical sector, where companies invest heavily in data infrastructure, while Dallas benefits from a large financial services and corporate headquarters presence, and Austin's technology industry growth has made it one of the fastest-growing markets for data engineering talent in the state.
Are there remote data platform engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 80% of data platform engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how naturally this role fits distributed work environments. The parts of the role most likely to stay fully remote are pipeline development, data modeling, and infrastructure-as-code work, while on-site presence is more common at companies requiring close collaboration with data governance or compliance teams.
How can I get hired as a data platform engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a data or software engineering associate role, which large Texas employers like Dell Technologies, USAA, and AT&T regularly post as a stepping stone into platform work. Candidates transitioning from adjacent roles like data analyst, BI developer, or backend software engineer are well-positioned because they already understand data structures and query logic. Building a portfolio of pipeline projects on GitHub and earning an entry-level AWS or Azure cloud certification gives Texas hiring managers something concrete to evaluate before an interview.
Where can I find and apply to data platform engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to data platform engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across the state's major hiring markets. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the employers posting them.
