Senior IT Project Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior it project manager in Texas?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or business, followed by hands-on project coordination roles that build toward full project ownership. Texas does not require a state-issued license for this role, but the Project Management Professional certification from PMI is the standard credential that Texas employers treat as a prerequisite at the senior level. Large Texas employers in healthcare IT and defense typically expect candidates to have led multi-phase technology programs before moving into senior titles.
How much do senior IT project managers make in Texas?
Senior IT project managers in Texas earn a median of about $98,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,460 for the lowest 10% to over $162,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior it project managers in Texas?
Employers hiring senior it project managers in Texas right now include Photon, Onset, and TAS Energy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Texas's concentration of financial services firms, defense contractors, and integrated health systems means demand for senior project leadership is spread across multiple industries rather than tied to a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most senior it project manager jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin account for the most senior it project manager openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth leads because of its dense cluster of corporate headquarters and regional tech operations, Houston draws demand from energy sector IT and large medical center networks, and Austin's rapid growth in enterprise software and semiconductor companies has made it a consistent source of senior-level project management openings.
Are there remote senior it project manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. Project management is fundamentally a coordination and communication role, which makes it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 59% of senior it project manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly Texas employers have adopted flexible delivery models since large-scale enterprise adoption accelerated. Planning, reporting, and stakeholder management work are the functions most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a senior it project manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a project coordinator or IT analyst role inside a large Texas employer, where you support existing PMs and build direct exposure to project lifecycles. Healthcare systems like HCA Houston Healthcare and financial institutions like Charles Schwab's Texas operations frequently hire associates into coordinator tracks. Earning a CAPM certification before the PMP, completing a Google Project Management Certificate, or building a portfolio of volunteer or internal projects gives candidates without formal experience a concrete credential to reference when applying to these feeder roles.
Where can I find and apply to senior it project manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to senior it project manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers and updates regularly. Find roles that match your experience and apply directly to the ones that fit.
