Commercial Property Casualty Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a commercial property casualty in Illinois?
You become a commercial property casualty professional in Illinois by obtaining a Property and Casualty producer license through the Illinois Department of Insurance, which requires passing the state licensing exam administered by Pearson VUE. Most entry-level roles also expect a bachelor's degree in business, finance, or risk management. Designations such as the CPCU or CIC strengthen candidacy for underwriting and senior account roles at Illinois carriers and brokerages.
Which companies hire commercial property casualtys in Illinois?
Companies currently hiring commercial property casualtys in Illinois include Geneva Insurance, Kyndryl, and OneDigital, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Illinois's position as a national insurance hub means large global carriers, wholesale brokers, and regional firms all maintain substantial commercial lines teams in the state.
Which Illinois cities have the most commercial property casualty jobs?
The cities with the most commercial property casualty openings in Illinois are Chicago, Illinois, and Lisle. Chicago dominates because it is home to the headquarters or major regional offices of global carriers, national brokerages, and specialty lines firms, while smaller Illinois cities in the list reflect demand from regional insurers and manufacturers that require dedicated commercial lines support.

Yes, and more than most fields. About 100% of commercial property casualty openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on analysis, policy review, and client communication rather than physical site presence. Account management, underwriting, and claims advisory roles are the most consistently offered in remote or hybrid formats.
How can I get hired as a commercial property casualty in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate underwriter or account coordinator role, which large Illinois-based operations like Zurich North America and Gallagher use to bring in candidates who hold a P&C license but lack direct commercial lines experience. Internship and rotational programs at Chicago-area carriers provide structured exposure to policy forms and client workflows. Candidates transitioning from personal lines, claims, or risk analyst roles often move into commercial positions by pairing those backgrounds with the Illinois P&C license and a CIC or CPCU coursework commitment.
