Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Mental Health Jobs at Advocates Jobs
Align Your Licensure with Massachusetts Requirements
Advocates operates primarily in Massachusetts, where Mental Health roles often require LCSW, LMHC, or LICSW licensure. Confirm your credentials transfer or that your visa timeline allows enough supervised hours to pursue state licensure before applying.
Target Roles Tied to Government-Funded Programs
Advocates runs contracts under state and federal behavioral health programs, and those positions are more likely to have structured onboarding and established HR processes for visa filings. Filter your search toward roles referencing DMH, MassHealth, or community mental health centers.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Active Openings
Advocates posts Mental Health openings across multiple program areas and locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed, so you're not guessing which positions have active hiring authority.
Ask HR About LCA Filing Before Accepting an Offer
Before you sign, confirm that Advocates' HR team has filed a Labor Condition Application with DOL for your specific role and worksite. LCA certification must precede any H-1B petition, and delays here can push your start date back significantly.
Prepare Clinical Documentation That Matches the Job Description
USCIS scrutinizes specialty occupation status for Mental Health roles. Gather transcripts, licensure documents, and supervised hours logs that map directly to the clinical duties listed in your offer letter, not just general counseling experience.
Understand OPT Cap-Gap Risk for Clinical Roles
If you're on F-1 OPT waiting for an H-1B approval, your cap-gap coverage keeps you authorized through September 30 of the lottery year. Clinical supervision requirements at Advocates may be affected if your status lapses, so confirm your I-94 end date with USCIS before your OPT expires.

Does Advocates sponsor H-1B visas for Mental Healths?
Yes, Advocates does sponsor H-1B visas for Mental Health roles. The company operates under government-funded behavioral health programs that regularly require clinical staff, and they have a track record of filing H-1B petitions for qualifying positions. Your role must meet USCIS specialty occupation standards, which for Mental Health typically means a required bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related clinical field.
How do I apply for Mental Health jobs at Advocates?
You can search for Mental Health openings on Advocates' careers page or use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for roles at Advocates where visa sponsorship is available. When applying, tailor your resume to the clinical competencies listed in the job description. Highlight any licensure, supervised clinical hours, and experience with populations Advocates serves, including adults with serious mental illness and individuals in community-based care settings.
Which visa types does Advocates use for Mental Health roles?
Advocates sponsors H-1B visas for Mental Health professionals in specialty occupation roles and accepts candidates on F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT for eligible positions. TN visa holders in qualifying clinical occupations may also be considered. The right visa type depends on your nationality, degree, and the specific role's clinical duties, so confirm with Advocates' HR which pathway applies to your situation before applying.
What qualifications does Advocates expect for Mental Health positions?
Most Mental Health roles at Advocates require a master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related clinical field. Many positions also expect Massachusetts licensure or active pursuit of it, such as LCSW, LMHC, or LICSW. Roles tied to DMH or MassHealth contracts may have additional credentialing requirements. Direct experience with community mental health, crisis intervention, or case management is frequently listed as a core qualification.
How do I plan my timeline for H-1B sponsorship at Advocates?
H-1B petitions are subject to an annual cap with a lottery that opens in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on OPT, your employer must file before your OPT expires to maintain cap-gap coverage. Advocates will need to file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting your H-1B petition to USCIS, so start conversations with HR at least four to five months before your target start date.
