INTRODUCTION
Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Checkout Product team is at the heart of this mission—powering Affirm’s core payment experience, frequently seen at merchant point of sale. This experience is distributed through direct merchant integrations and strategic platform partners, and is driven by a sophisticated, real-time, risk-based decisioning system spanning Identity, Fraud, Credit, and Pricing. We are looking for a Senior Director of Consumer Risk product to lead this critical surface area within Checkout. In this role, you will own the product vision, strategy, and execution across Credit, Pricing, and Fraud, enabling Affirm to grow responsibly while delivering best-in-class consumer and merchant experiences. Affirm’s proprietary underwriting is one of our greatest strengths. We only make money when consumers pay us back on time—aligning incentives and fundamentally reimagining how credit should work. As the leader of Consumer Risk product, you will help scale and evolve this system, balancing customer trust, merchant performance, and long-term business outcomes. This is a highly cross-functional, analytically rigorous, and commercially impactful role. You will lead and scale a team of Product Managers, partner deeply with Engineering, Machine Learning, Analytics, Risk, Finance, Legal, Design, and GTM teams, and influence senior leaders across the company.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the end-to-end product vision, strategy, and execution for Consumer Risk within Checkout, encompassing Credit decisioning, Pricing, and Fraud prevention
- Translate Affirm’s mission into a clear product roadmap that balances growth, risk, customer trust, and platform scalability
- Lead and scale a team of Product Managers owning distinct Consumer Risk surface areas, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and high performance
- Partner closely with Machine Learning, Analytics and Engineering to shape model-driven product experiences, including underwriting logic, pricing frameworks, fraud signals, and decisioning platforms
- Drive quantitative storytelling—using data, experiments, and modeling to inform strategy, influence stakeholders, and guide tradeoffs
- Champion a customer-first mindset, ensuring risk experiences are transparent, fair, and intuitive for consumers while delivering strong outcomes for merchants
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Risk, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Design, Marketing, and GTM teams to deliver cohesive, scalable solutions
- Set and own key performance metrics (e.g., approval rate, conversion, loss rate, unit economics, LTV, fraud outcomes, customer trust metrics) and hold teams accountable to results
- Navigate complex organizational dynamics and influence senior stakeholders, including the executive team, with clear articulation of strategy, tradeoffs, and impact
- Balance near-term execution with long-term platform investments, ensuring Consumer Risk capabilities scale with Affirm’s growth and partner ecosystem
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 12+ years of Product Management experience, including leadership roles on fast-paced teams driving responsible, sustainable growth
- Deep experience working with Credit, Pricing, and/or Fraud stakeholders, with a strong understanding of:
- Credit: underwriting tradeoffs, unit economics, loss management, regulatory considerations
- Pricing: risk-based pricing, margin optimization, experimentation, and fairness considerations
- Fraud: adversarial systems, real-time decisioning, false positive/negative tradeoffs, and customer trust
- Strong quantitative and analytical orientation—comfortable engaging in model-level discussions, using data to drive decisions, and translating complexity into clear narratives
- Experience building and scaling platform and decisioning products, not just surface-level UX
- Proven track record of managing and mentoring large, geographically distributed PM teams
- Commercially minded with a high-agency, bias-to-action mindset and comfort making hard tradeoffs in ambiguous environments
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across functions and levels
- Experience working in design-forward organizations that prioritize clarity, transparency, and high-quality user experiences
- A systems thinker who can balance short-term business impact with long-term scalability and technical health
- Fintech, payments, or risk-heavy consumer product experience is a strong plus
COMPENSATION

Frame your fintech product experience precisely
Affirm's Product Director roles sit at the crossroads of lending, payments, and consumer trust. Tailor your resume to highlight experience owning roadmaps for regulated financial products, not just general consumer apps. Compliance-aware product thinking is what separates shortlisted candidates.
Target Affirm's platform and growth product teams
Affirm structures product leadership around merchant integrations, consumer underwriting, and core checkout experiences. Identifying which of these pillars aligns with your background helps you target the right internal team and demonstrate immediate domain relevance in interviews.
Ask about PERM early for EB-2 or EB-3 pathways
If long-term permanent residence matters to you, ask Affirm's recruiting team whether they initiate PERM sponsorship for Product Director hires. DOL's PERM process can take a year or more before an I-140 petition is even filed, so timeline clarity matters before you sign.
Use Migrate Mate to surface active Product Director openings
Affirm posts product leadership roles across multiple channels and hiring cycles. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Product Director roles at Affirm that include visa sponsorship, so you're applying to active positions rather than expired or ineligible listings.
Negotiate your start date around visa transfer timelines
If you're transferring an existing H-1B from another employer, Affirm can file a portability petition and you can begin working upon receipt notice. Build this into offer negotiations so your start date reflects realistic USCIS processing, not just a recruiter's preferred onboarding window.

Find Product Director at Affirm JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Affirm sponsor H-1B visas for Product Directors?
Yes, Affirm sponsors H-1B visas for Product Director roles. If you're transferring an existing H-1B from another employer, you can start working as soon as USCIS issues a receipt notice under H-1B portability rules. If you need a new H-1B, timing depends on the annual lottery, which opens each April for an October 1 start date.
Which visa types does Affirm commonly sponsor for Product Director roles?
Affirm sponsors H-1B visas as the primary nonimmigrant pathway for Product Directors. The company also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates still in authorized training periods, TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying specialty occupations, and immigrant visa pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for permanent residence sponsorship.
What qualifications does Affirm expect for Product Director positions?
Affirm typically looks for Product Directors with experience owning full product lifecycles in consumer finance, payments, or lending. Strong candidates bring demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, translate regulatory constraints into product decisions, and operate with data fluency. Domain experience in buy-now-pay-later, credit underwriting, or merchant integrations is a meaningful differentiator.
How do I apply for Product Director jobs at Affirm?
You can apply directly through Affirm's careers site or browse verified, sponsorship-confirmed listings on Migrate Mate, which filters for roles explicitly open to visa holders. When applying, tailor your materials to Affirm's specific product domains, such as consumer checkout, merchant growth, or risk and underwriting, rather than submitting a generic product leadership resume.
How do I plan my timeline if Affirm offers me a Product Director role with H-1B sponsorship?
If you need a new H-1B, registrations open in March for an October 1 start, so offer timing matters significantly. If you're on OPT with STEM extension eligibility, confirm whether Affirm will file your H-1B petition in time to cover any cap-gap period. For H-1B transfers, USCIS receipt of the petition triggers work authorization, typically within two to four weeks of filing.
