INTRODUCTION
Apple seeks a SoC Debug and Automation Engineering Program Manager (EPM) within the Silicon Engineering Group (SEG) to drive silicon program schedules, silicon readiness milestones, and cross-functional issue resolution that enable timely delivery of next generation Apple SoCs. You will lead programs spanning debug, bring-up, validation, and production release while championing automation and process efficiency to scale the EPM function and shape future silicon designs through lessons learned.
DESCRIPTION
SoC and Silicon Readiness Program Management:
-
Support driving cross-functional program execution across Design, Verification, Validation, and Software teams - tracking issues, flagging dependencies, and helping keep deliverables on schedule through regular syncs with teams.
-
Prepare and maintain issue reports, bug tracking summaries, status updates, and readiness dashboards that provide timely visibility into program health for engineering teams and stakeholders.
-
Assist in tracking Silicon Readiness milestones from tape-out through bring-up and production release, helping surface risks, maintain phase checklists, and contribute to mitigation plans across Design, Validation, and Product Engineering teams.
-
Identify and automate program management workflows - including issue tracking, status reporting, and milestone monitoring - using Python or Java, with integration into existing internal toolchains.
-
Apply LLM tools and agentic frameworks (e.g., Claude Code) to streamline PM workflows; stay current on Apple's internal AI capabilities and support teammates in adopting relevant tools and best practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
SoC/VLSI chip design or post-silicon validation, with familiarity in SoC architecture and associated IPs.
-
Experience leading debug efforts and driving cross-functional technical coordination.
-
Some exposure to scripting in languages like Python for automation and tooling.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-
Experience with ARM architecture.
-
Strong communicator with the ability to synthesize complex technical discussions into clear, actionable updates for cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
-
Demonstrated ability to build automation tools or scripts that measurably improve EPM efficiency, reporting, and data visibility.
-
Leadership and influencing skills - able to see the big picture, manage complex multi-faceted schedules, and drive results across cross-functional organizations without direct authority.
-
Working knowledge of software development processes and pre-silicon modeling platforms (Simulation, FPGA, Emulation).
-
Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences; proven multi-tasking ability and real-time crisis management under pressure.

Align your credentials to Apple's specialty occupation standard
Apple's Automation roles typically require a degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation based on degree-field match, so a generalist resume without clear engineering credentials raises petition risk.
Target roles in Apple's hardware and manufacturing divisions
Apple's Automation hiring concentrates in hardware engineering and operations groups supporting product manufacturing. Roles tied to iPhone, Apple Watch, or Mac production lines are where Automation engineers appear most consistently, so focus your search there first.
Browse open Automation positions using Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Apple's Automation jobs by the visa types the company sponsors, so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying rather than discovering it late in the process.
Understand which visa fits your citizenship before applying
Australian citizens can use the E-3, Canadians and Mexicans can use TN, and most other nationalities will depend on H-1B or F-1 OPT. Clarifying your visa pathway before your first interview lets you answer recruiter questions confidently and avoids late-stage surprises.
Time your application around the H-1B cap and Apple's hiring cycle
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Apple typically finalizes headcount for new grad and intern conversion roles in the spring, so targeting offers between January and March aligns with both timelines.
Prepare your I-94 and OPT authorization documents before your offer call
Apple's recruiting coordinators move quickly once an offer is extended. Having your I-94 travel history, current visa stamp, and EAD card details ready lets HR initiate the DOL Labor Condition Application without delays that can push your start date.

Find Automation at Apple JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Automation roles?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Automation engineers. These roles qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria because they require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related engineering field. Apple files petitions both for cap-subject candidates and for F-1 OPT extensions, so your immigration pathway depends on your current status and citizenship.
How do I apply for Automation jobs at Apple?
Apply through Apple's official careers site at jobs.apple.com, searching for Automation, Test Engineering, or Manufacturing Systems roles. Tailor your resume to highlight hands-on experience with test automation frameworks, robotics, or hardware validation. Migrate Mate also lists Apple's open Automation positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which helps you prioritize roles where sponsorship is confirmed.
Which visa types does Apple commonly sponsor for Automation engineers?
Apple sponsors H-1B for most nationalities, E-3 for Australian citizens, and TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations. F-1 OPT and CPT are supported for students completing degrees in the U.S. For longer-term pathways, Apple also files EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa petitions, including PERM labor certifications, for Automation engineers transitioning toward a Green Card.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Automation roles?
Apple's Automation positions typically require a bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics, or a closely related field. Practical experience with automated test systems, scripting languages such as Python, and hardware bring-up or validation is expected. Roles supporting consumer hardware lines like iPhone or Apple Silicon often look for candidates with semiconductor or precision manufacturing backgrounds.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship for an Apple Automation role?
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, your earliest possible start date is October 1, with USCIS registration opening each March. F-1 OPT gives you up to 12 months of work authorization after graduation, with a potential 24-month STEM extension that Apple's engineering roles qualify for. Building your timeline backward from these fixed government deadlines helps you target an offer before the registration window closes.
