Align your resume to Apple's silicon stack
Apple's embedded teams work on custom silicon including the A-series and M-series chips. Highlighting experience with ARM architectures, low-level firmware, or real-time OS development makes your profile directly legible to their technical recruiters.
Target roles that match your visa category
Australian citizens should prioritize E-3 applications since Apple sponsors this category and it bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely. Canadians and Mexicans in qualifying engineering roles can explore TN status, which Apple also sponsors and processes faster.
Document your specialty occupation evidence early
USCIS requires H-1B petitions to demonstrate the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. For embedded engineers, gather degree transcripts, prior approval notices if any, and a detailed employer job description tying your specific credentials to the role before the offer stage.
Understand Apple's PERM filing implications
If your goal is permanent residency through EB-2 or EB-3, Apple typically initiates PERM labor certification after a period of employment. Knowing the DOL prevailing wage for your embedded role and location helps you evaluate whether the offer supports that pathway.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Apple's open embedded roles
Apple posts embedded positions across multiple business units, and sponsorship eligibility can vary by team. Use Migrate Mate to filter Apple's open embedded roles by visa type so you're only applying to positions where sponsorship is confirmed.
Prepare for visa filing during Apple's onboarding window
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed for an October 1 start date, so if you're selected in the lottery, your actual start date may be months after your offer. Confirm with your recruiter whether a cap-exempt or change-of-status option applies to your situation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Embeddeds?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for embedded engineers. The H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, so sponsorship for new applicants depends on USCIS selection each spring. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a transfer to Apple is cap-exempt and can proceed at any point in the year.
How do I apply for Embedded jobs at Apple?
Applications go through Apple's careers portal, but roles are competitive and postings close quickly. Use Migrate Mate to browse Apple's current embedded openings filtered by visa sponsorship type so you can prioritize roles where your specific visa category is supported before applying directly through Apple's site.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Embedded roles?
Apple sponsors H-1B and H-1B1 visa for most international embedded engineers. Australian citizens are eligible for the E-3, which has no lottery. Canadian and Mexican engineers in qualifying roles may use TN status. For longer-term employees, Apple also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM process.
What qualifications does Apple expect for Embedded roles?
Most embedded positions at Apple require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science. Practical experience with firmware development, RTOS, device drivers, or low-level hardware-software integration is expected. Roles tied to Apple's silicon teams often require familiarity with ARM-based architectures and power-optimized system design.
How do I understand the timeline from offer to work authorization at Apple?
Timeline depends on your visa category. E-3 and TN applicants can often begin within weeks of an approved petition or consular appointment. H-1B cap-subject cases are tied to the October 1 start date, meaning the gap between offer and start can stretch several months. H-1B transfers for existing visa holders move faster, typically within 15 to 60 days depending on whether premium processing is used.
