Align your credentials to Apple's NPI process
Apple's Product Development Managers own New Product Introduction cycles, so frame your resume around hardware launch milestones, DFM reviews, and cross-functional team leadership. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation based on degree-to-role fit, so make the engineering or technical management connection explicit.
Target roles inside Apple's hardware org
Apple's hardware engineering and operations divisions file the most sponsorship petitions for this function. Filter your search to product lines like iPhone, Mac, or Apple Silicon accessories, where structured NPI teams and defined program management headcount make visa filing a standard part of onboarding.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Apple's open roles
Apple posts Product Development Manager openings across multiple hardware divisions simultaneously, and they close fast. Use Migrate Mate to browse verified visa-sponsored roles at Apple so you're applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed, not guessing from a generic careers page.
Understand which visa applies to your situation
Apple sponsors H-1B, E-3, H-1B1, TN, and Green Card pathways depending on your nationality and career stage. Australian citizens should pursue the E-3 route, which skips the lottery entirely. If you're on F-1 OPT, Apple can file your H-1B before your OPT expires to bridge the gap.
Get your offer letter timing right
H-1B cap filings open in March for an October 1 start date. If Apple extends an offer in Q1, the timeline aligns well. If your offer comes later, confirm with your recruiter whether a cap-exempt filing or change of status from OPT is available to avoid a gap in work authorization.
Prepare for DOL prevailing wage requirements early
Before Apple files your Labor Condition Application with DOL, your offered salary must meet the prevailing wage for the role and location. Cupertino's wage levels are among the highest in the country, so research current DOL wage data for Santa Clara County to verify your offer is compliant before signing.

Does Apple sponsor H-1B visas for Product Development Managers?
Yes, Apple sponsors H-1B visas for Product Development Managers, particularly within its hardware engineering and operations organizations. The process involves Apple filing a Labor Condition Application with DOL and then submitting an H-1B petition to USCIS. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, timing your offer relative to the March registration window matters significantly.
How do I apply for Product Development Manager jobs at Apple?
Apply directly through Apple's careers site and tailor your application to the specific hardware division the role sits in, whether that's iPhone, Mac, or another product line. Highlight experience owning NPI cycles, coordinating cross-functional reviews, and managing supplier relationships. Migrate Mate lists verified visa-sponsored Product Development Manager openings at Apple, so you can confirm sponsorship eligibility before applying.
Which visa types does Apple commonly use for Product Development Manager roles?
Apple uses several visa categories for this role depending on your nationality and current status. H-1B is the most common pathway for non-Australians. Australian citizens are typically sponsored on the E-3, which has no lottery and a far less competitive process. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN status. F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported for candidates transitioning from graduate programs.
What qualifications does Apple expect for a Product Development Manager?
Apple generally expects a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related technical field, with a master's degree preferred for senior-level roles. Beyond credentials, Apple looks for direct experience managing hardware product launches end to end, including DFM sign-off, tooling releases, and mass production ramp. Program management experience in consumer electronics or a high-precision manufacturing environment is a strong differentiator.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take at Apple for this role?
Timeline depends on the visa type. E-3 applications for Australian candidates can move from offer to visa stamp in two to four weeks if the Labor Condition Application is filed promptly. H-1B petitions under standard processing take three to five months from USCIS receipt. Premium processing reduces that to 15 business days. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, when offered, typically takes one to three years depending on your country of birth and priority date.
