About this opportunity:
Recreation Services is excited to announce the job opportunity of Coordinator of Recreation Operations for Outdoor Pursuits and Concessions Operations. This position will oversee the Outdoor Pursuits area of Recreation Services which includes the Climbing Wall, Rental Center, Trips, and Clinics. In addition, this Coordinator position will also assist with the management of concessions operations for all Athletic Events and other events for campus.
What you'll do and what you'll bring:
Position Function: Administer and manage Outdoor Pursuits programs, Concessions Operations, and informal recreation equipment operations; includes the following areas: trips and workshops, climbing center, expansive outdoor equipment rental center, informal recreation equipment checkout, and locker/apparel services; position has significant responsibility to ensure the health and well-being of all staff and patrons due to the unique offsite nature of programming; also serves to provide program staff management; management of concessions operations for athletic events and other campus events; nightly and weekend facility coverage; and supervision of special events as needed; typical work schedule will include evening times during the week and weekend and extended trip management responsibility.
Duties/Responsibilities:

Perform research, planning, development and administration of all trips (including day, weekend, week-long, and custom), climbing wall programs, outdoor rental center, concessions operations, and equipment room services (lockers, equipment operations, and washer/dryer maintenance).

Develop policies and procedures for Outdoor Pursuits programs and informal recreation equipment services.

Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Outdoor Pursuit staff if applicable and potential interns or practicum students.

Plan and execute annual staff training if applicable and regular in-service trainings for both Outdoor Pursuits, informal recreation equipment centers, and concession operations.

Work with recreation marketing staff to coordinate and oversee all Outdoor Pursuits program publicity and public relation efforts.

Provide support with the purchasing and maintenance of Outdoor Pursuit facilities, vehicles, equipment, and supply inventories.

Oversee equipment inspections (Climbing Wall Monthly, Climbing Wall Semi-Annual, and other climbing and rental equipment) to ensure the well-being of participants and patrons.

Manage all special events that take place at the climbing wall and other areas of recreation services (club sports, competitions, specialty climbing nights, etc.).

Manage the student and staff payroll system for all Outdoor Pursuits, Concessions Operations, and informal recreation equipment staff.

Provide support in development of Outdoor Pursuits, Concessions Operations, and informal recreation equipment area strategic plans, goals and objectives, and program assessments.

Provide support to the Director in the development of reports on program participation, activities, incomes, expenses, and evaluate program data to provide documented justification for program proposals and budget or personnel adjustments.

Provide support in authoring and updating all employee and participant guidelines.

Provide support with other programs and activities as assigned, including special events.

Establish working relationships with individuals, agencies, and groups as necessary and appropriate, or as assigned.

Provide support with the management of full-time field facility attendants for custodial and event set-up and tear-down needs.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

At least one year of professional experience in managing outdoor programming including climbing wall, equipment rentals, and trips; must have a variety of experiences leading groups in outdoor settings; experience working within a recreational sport or outdoor recreation setting and have direct management of employees. Two years of a graduate assistantship in a related field may be counted as one year of professional experience. Three years of undergraduate experience in a related field may be counted as one year of professional experience.

Ability to obtain Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Climbing Wall Instructor Certification, Single Pitch Instructor Certification, Lifeguard Instructor Certification, Lifeguard Certification, Adult CPR, AED, and First-Aid Certification, ServSafe Certification, and Indiana Employee Alcohol Permit. All certifications must be obtained within 90 days of employment but may be dependent upon available certification locations and dates.

Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.

Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

Possess current Wilderness First Responder (WFR); Professional Membership - National Intramural-Recreation Sports Association (NIRSA), Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE), or Association of Experiential Education (AEE); certification in American Canoe Association Level 1 Instructor or higher; American Mountain Guides Association or Professional Climbing Instructors Association Single Pitch Climbing Instructor or higher; WFA/WFR Trainer; Swiftwater Rescue Technician, Lifeguard Instructor Certification; Lifeguard Certification; CPR, AED, First-Aid Certification; ServSafe Certification; Indiana Employee Alcohol Permit.
