Align your portfolio with Bloomberg's stack
Bloomberg's backend engineering work centers on low-latency data pipelines, distributed systems, and proprietary infrastructure. Demonstrating hands-on experience with C++, Python, or real-time messaging systems in your resume and GitHub portfolio signals direct fit before the first screen.
Target Bloomberg's engineering teams strategically
Bloomberg hires backend engineers across distinct product verticals, from Terminal data feeds to analytics platforms. Applying to roles that match your domain, rather than casting broadly, increases the likelihood your application reaches a team with active headcount and sponsorship approval already in motion.
Clarify visa category eligibility before your offer stage
Bloomberg sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas for backend roles. If you hold Australian or Singaporean citizenship, confirm with the recruiter early that your preferred category is on the table, since E-3 and H-1B1 processing timelines differ from a standard H-1B petition.
Prepare your specialty occupation documentation early
USCIS requires that H-1B petitions for software engineering roles demonstrate a direct nexus between your specific degree field and the position. Gather official transcripts, degree equivalency evaluations if your credential is foreign, and any coursework documentation that ties your background to backend systems engineering.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Bloomberg's open backend roles
Bloomberg posts backend engineering openings across multiple teams simultaneously, making it easy to miss relevant listings. Use Migrate Mate to filter Bloomberg's open Backend Engineer positions by visa sponsorship type so you can focus your applications on roles actively seeking sponsored candidates.
Understand how Bloomberg's H-1B lottery timing affects your start date
If you need a new H-1B cap-subject petition, USCIS registration opens in March for an October 1 start date. Work backward with your recruiter to align your offer letter, DOL Labor Condition Application filing, and any OPT or grace period status so there's no gap in authorization.

Find Backend Engineer at Bloomberg JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Bloomberg sponsor H-1B visas for Backend Engineers?
Yes, Bloomberg sponsors H-1B visas for Backend Engineer roles. Bloomberg is a large employer with an established immigration program, and backend engineering is one of the functions where visa sponsorship is regularly supported. If you're cap-subject, your offer timeline will need to align with the USCIS H-1B registration window each March.
How do I apply for Backend Engineer jobs at Bloomberg?
You can apply directly through Bloomberg's careers portal or browse open roles filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. Bloomberg's backend engineering interviews typically include multiple technical rounds covering systems design, data structures, and language proficiency, often in C++ or Python. Tailoring your application to a specific team's domain, such as data infrastructure or analytics, improves your chances over a generic submission.
Which visa types does Bloomberg commonly use for Backend Engineer roles?
Bloomberg sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, E-3, and employment-based Green Cards including EB-2 and EB-3 for backend engineering positions. H-1B is the most commonly used category for candidates from most countries. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3, and Singaporean and Chilean nationals may qualify for H-1B1, both of which have dedicated annual allocations and avoid the H-1B lottery.
What qualifications does Bloomberg expect for Backend Engineer roles?
Bloomberg's backend engineering roles generally require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field, which also satisfies USCIS specialty occupation requirements for H-1B petitions. Practical experience with distributed systems, low-latency architectures, or financial data processing is weighted heavily. Roles vary in seniority, but strong fundamentals in systems programming and design are consistent expectations across teams.
How do I time my job search at Bloomberg around the H-1B process?
USCIS opens H-1B cap registration each March for an October 1 start date, so targeting Bloomberg roles in the December through February window gives you and your employer time to prepare a petition before registration closes. If you're on OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date against this timeline. Bloomberg's size means their legal team can move quickly once an offer is extended, but the DOL Labor Condition Application must still be certified before your petition is filed.
