Position Summary
The Patient Access Registrar is responsible for the day-to-day admissions of ER, OB, Inpatient, Swing Bed, Observation patients, day surgery and outpatients. Ensuring the needs of all patients are met in a timely manner as well as following through with the charts upon completion of their visits. Multi-tasking, self-motivation, organization skills, and being able to work in a fast-paced environment are required.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Promotes the mission, vision, and values of BMHD.
- Maintains confidentiality of patients, employee, and organizational information in accordance with applicable policies and HIPAA requirements.
- Operates the multi-line telephone system in a professional manner. Directs calls to appropriate staff, taking accurate messages and responding to inquiries appropriately.
- Greet patients, family and staff in a respectful and professional way.
- Obtain and enter into the computer system accurately, patient information including demographics, insurance and type of service.
- Use web tools to collect insurance information and eligibility for every patient.
- Authorization of admissions into the hospital.
- Organizes and files documents and correspondence accurately, on a timely basis.
- Types required documents and correspondence.
- Organizes and maintains client records and company files.
- Complies with all applicable company policies and procedures.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to the Operations Manager, administrative staff and co-workers.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized in stressful situations.
- Is a resource to co-workers, doctor to doctor calls.
- Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety, quality and professionalism.
- Demonstrates ability to order supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
