Frame your credentials around specialty occupation standards
BCG Project Development Manager roles typically require a specific bachelor's degree or higher in business, economics, or a related field. Document that your degree directly supports the role's analytical and strategic functions, since USCIS evaluates specialty occupation fit on a case-by-case basis.
Target BCG's consulting practice areas strategically
BCG hires Project Development Managers across distinct practice areas like Operations, Digital, and Corporate Finance. Applying to a practice that aligns with your industry background gives your application a stronger internal sponsor and improves your odds of clearing BCG's internal project staffing model.
Search BCG roles on Migrate Mate first
BCG posts Project Development Manager openings across multiple offices, and not all roles carry equal sponsorship priority. Use Migrate Mate to filter BCG's open positions by visa type so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed, not guessing at company policy mid-process.
Clarify your visa status before the offer stage
BCG's recruiting process moves quickly from final rounds to offer. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT end date and STEM extension eligibility before the offer conversation so BCG's immigration team can determine whether an H-1B cap-gap or expedited filing is needed.
Understand BCG's H-1B filing window relative to your timeline
H-1B cap registrations open each March for an October 1 start date. If BCG extends a full-time offer in fall or winter, your start date may be delayed up to a year. Ask BCG's talent team directly whether your role qualifies for a cap-exempt or change-of-status filing to avoid gaps.
Verify your Labor Condition Application wage level early
For H-1B and E-3 filings, BCG must submit a Labor Condition Application to the DOL certifying your offered wage meets the prevailing wage for your metro area and job level. Understanding your LCA wage tier before negotiating helps you avoid compensation structures that complicate the filing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Boston Consulting Group sponsor H-1B visas for Project Development Managers?
Yes, BCG sponsors H-1B visas for Project Development Manager roles. The process involves BCG filing a Labor Condition Application with the DOL and then submitting a Form I-129 petition with USCIS. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, timing matters. Offers made outside the cap registration window may require candidates to wait for the next filing cycle unless BCG determines the role qualifies for cap-exempt sponsorship.
Which visa types does Boston Consulting Group commonly use for Project Development Manager roles?
BCG sponsors several visa types for this role depending on your nationality and current status. H-1B is the most common path for most international candidates. Australian citizens can pursue the E-3 visa, which skips the lottery entirely. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status. Students finishing degrees in the U.S. often start on F-1 OPT before transitioning to a longer-term sponsored visa.
What qualifications does BCG expect for Project Development Manager candidates?
BCG typically looks for a bachelor's degree or higher in business, economics, engineering, or a closely related field, combined with experience in project management, client-facing consulting, or operational strategy. Strong quantitative skills and experience managing cross-functional workstreams are common requirements. For visa purposes, your degree must align with the specific duties of the role to satisfy USCIS specialty occupation standards under the H-1B.
How do I apply for Project Development Manager jobs at Boston Consulting Group?
You can find open Project Development Manager positions at BCG on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you know upfront whether your visa category is supported. Applications typically require a resume and may include a case interview component. BCG recruits on a rolling basis for experienced hires, so applying early in a posting's lifecycle increases your chances of advancing before headcount closes.
How long does BCG's visa sponsorship process take for a Project Development Manager offer?
Timeline depends on your visa type. E-3 visa and TN sponsorships can move quickly, sometimes within a few weeks of offer acceptance. H-1B petitions take longer because they're tied to the October 1 cap start date and the March lottery window. USCIS premium processing for H-1B petitions can reduce adjudication to around 15 business days once filed, which BCG may offer in time-sensitive situations.
