Align Your Degree to Specialty Occupation Standards
H-1B eligibility for engineering roles requires a direct nexus between your degree field and the position. A civil or environmental engineering degree maps cleanly, but a general science degree supporting a specialized role needs documentation showing field equivalency.
Target Brown and Caldwell's Municipal Project Divisions
Brown and Caldwell's work is concentrated in water, wastewater, and environmental infrastructure projects for municipal clients. Engineers with project experience in those sectors fit the firm's delivery model and are more likely to land roles where sponsorship conversations move forward.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Engineering Roles
Not every listed role will have an active sponsorship path. Use Migrate Mate to filter Brown and Caldwell's engineering openings by visa type so you're only applying to positions where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Start OPT Early for Long Consulting Hiring Cycles
Consulting firms like Brown and Caldwell often run multi-stage interviews and extended background checks. If you're on F-1 OPT, apply at least three months before your authorization end date so your timeline doesn't create pressure during offer negotiation.
Request LCA Details Before Signing an Offer
Before you accept an offer, ask HR to confirm the Labor Condition Application wage level for your specific role and work location. DOL prevailing wage levels vary significantly by metro area, and the LCA locks in the wage floor your H-1B petition is built on.
Document PE Licensure Progress for Senior Roles
Brown and Caldwell's senior engineering positions frequently expect progress toward or completion of a Professional Engineer license. Documenting your EIT status and exam timeline strengthens your candidacy and gives the hiring team clarity on your professional development trajectory.

Find Engineering at Brown and Caldwell JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Brown and Caldwell sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Brown and Caldwell sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying engineering roles. The position must meet USCIS specialty occupation standards, which engineering roles in environmental and infrastructure consulting generally satisfy given the degree requirements involved. Your specific role title and job duties will be evaluated as part of the H-1B petition, so clarifying those details early in the offer process is practical.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Brown and Caldwell?
Applications go through Brown and Caldwell's careers portal, where roles are listed by discipline and location. You can also browse and filter their open engineering positions on Migrate Mate, which lets you narrow results by visa type to confirm sponsorship availability before applying. Tailoring your resume to the specific infrastructure or environmental sector the role covers will strengthen your application.
Which visa types does Brown and Caldwell commonly use for Engineering roles?
Brown and Caldwell works with several visa categories for engineering hires, including H-1B, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students in active programs, J-1 for exchange visitors, and employer-sponsored immigrant pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. TN is worth exploring early if you're a Canadian or Mexican national with an engineering degree, since it bypasses the H-1B lottery entirely.
What qualifications does Brown and Caldwell expect for Engineering positions?
Most engineering roles require a bachelor's degree or higher in civil, environmental, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline. Project experience in water, wastewater, or environmental infrastructure is highly relevant given the firm's core markets. Senior roles frequently expect progress toward a Professional Engineer license. Advanced degrees strengthen candidacy for technical specialist or project manager tracks within the consulting structure.
How do I time my application if I'm on OPT and need H-1B sponsorship?
The H-1B cap filing window opens in March each year for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you're selected in the lottery, a cap-gap extension covers the gap automatically through September 30. Apply to Brown and Caldwell well before the registration window so you can negotiate an offer and give HR time to prepare the USCIS filing by the March deadline.
