Frame Your Skills Around Environmental Tech
Brown and Caldwell builds software for water, environmental, and infrastructure projects. Tailor your resume to highlight GIS integrations, data pipelines, or asset management systems rather than generic full-stack experience. Consulting firms sponsor engineers who solve domain-specific problems.
Target Roles Tied to Active Project Contracts
Consulting firms like Brown and Caldwell hire Software Engineers against billable project needs, not headcount plans. Prioritize open roles tied to infrastructure or environmental monitoring programs, where staffing timelines are driven by contract deliverables rather than annual hiring cycles.
Confirm OPT STEM Extension Eligibility Early
Software Engineering roles at an environmental consultancy typically qualify under STEM OPT if the position is classified under a STEM CIP code. Verify your program's CIP code matches before your initial OPT expires so you have 24 additional months to pursue an H-1B.
Prepare a Specialty Occupation Case for Your Role
USCIS scrutinizes H-1B petitions for software roles at consulting firms more than at product companies. Document how your specific position requires a theoretical and practical application of computer science, not just general programming skills, to strengthen the specialty occupation argument.
Search Filtered Sponsoring Employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Software Engineer openings specifically at companies with a confirmed visa sponsorship track record in consulting and professional services. This narrows your outreach to roles where sponsorship infrastructure already exists rather than testing employers cold.
Align Your Timeline With the H-1B Cap Cycle
If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, Brown and Caldwell must file your petition in April for an October 1 start. Start final-round interviews no later than February to give the employer enough time to prepare the DOL Labor Condition Application and I-129 filing.

Find Software Engineer at Brown and Caldwell JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Brown and Caldwell sponsor H-1B visas for Software Engineers?
Yes, Brown and Caldwell sponsors H-1B visas for Software Engineers. As an environmental and engineering consultancy, the company files H-1B petitions for technical roles that meet USCIS specialty occupation standards. Your role will need to demonstrate it requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field, so document your responsibilities carefully before the petition is prepared.
Which visa types are commonly used for Software Engineer roles at Brown and Caldwell?
Software Engineers at Brown and Caldwell most commonly enter or maintain status through H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 visas. Longer-term Green Card pathways through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM labor certification are also available for eligible candidates. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and where you are in the immigration process.
What qualifications and experience are expected for Software Engineer roles at Brown and Caldwell?
Brown and Caldwell typically hires Software Engineers with a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Because the company operates in the environmental and water infrastructure space, experience with data systems, GIS tools, or enterprise asset management platforms is a practical differentiator. Strong backend or full-stack experience in a regulated or engineering-adjacent environment carries weight.
How do I apply for Software Engineer jobs at Brown and Caldwell?
You can browse and apply for Software Engineer openings at Brown and Caldwell directly through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles with confirmed visa sponsorship history in consulting and professional services. Applying through a platform that filters for sponsoring employers saves time and ensures you're targeting positions where immigration support is already in place rather than negotiating it from scratch.
How do I plan my timeline if I need sponsorship for a Software Engineer role at Brown and Caldwell?
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your STEM extension eligibility as early as possible to maximize your runway before an H-1B is needed. For cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, the registration window opens in March and petitions are filed in April for an October 1 start date. Plan to complete your interview process by February so your employer has time to file the DOL Labor Condition Application before the USCIS deadline.
