Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding AI ML Engineer Jobs at ByteDance Jobs
Align Your Portfolio to ByteDance's Research Focus
ByteDance prioritizes ML engineers with experience in recommendation systems, large language models, or computer vision at scale. Tailor your GitHub projects and paper citations to reflect these verticals before applying, not after you get the interview.
Target Teams Publishing on ArXiv
ByteDance's AI Lab and TikTok ML teams regularly publish research. Identifying the specific team behind a role through their published work lets you speak directly to their technical priorities in your application materials.
Verify Your Visa Category Matches the Role Level
ByteDance sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas, but the right category depends on your nationality and role seniority. Confirm which petition type the recruiter intends to file before you negotiate timelines, since processing paths differ significantly.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open AI ML Roles
Searching broadly across job boards makes it hard to isolate ByteDance's AI ML openings that include explicit sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters by visa type and employer so you can target verified sponsoring roles at ByteDance directly without sifting through unsponsored listings.
Prepare for a Technical Loop Before Receiving an Offer
ByteDance runs multi-round coding and system design interviews for AI ML roles, often including an ML-specific design round. Having your LCA and I-129 documentation ready before the final round means your employer can file quickly once you clear the loop.

Find AI ML Engineer at ByteDance JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does ByteDance sponsor H-1B visas for AI ML Engineers?
Yes, ByteDance sponsors H-1B visas for AI ML Engineers. The company participates in the annual H-1B lottery for cap-subject candidates and also files cap-exempt petitions in some cases. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, ByteDance can file a transfer petition outside of the lottery window, which is a faster path if you have an active approval.
Which visa types does ByteDance sponsor for AI ML Engineer roles?
ByteDance sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas for nonimmigrant work authorization, along with employment-based Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications. Australian citizens on the E-3 and nationals of countries with H-1B1 treaty eligibility have a streamlined path since those categories aren't subject to the same lottery constraints as the standard H-1B.
What qualifications does ByteDance expect for AI ML Engineer roles?
ByteDance typically expects a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, machine learning, or a closely related field, along with hands-on experience building and deploying ML models in production environments. For mid-to-senior roles, familiarity with large-scale distributed training, recommendation systems, or NLP architectures is common. Strong research output, including publications or open-source contributions, carries significant weight in the evaluation process.
How do I apply for AI ML Engineer jobs at ByteDance?
You can browse open AI ML Engineer positions at ByteDance through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility before applying. Once you identify a role, apply directly through ByteDance's careers portal. The process typically involves a recruiter screen, multiple technical rounds covering coding and ML system design, and a final hiring committee review before an offer is extended.
How do I time my H-1B application if I'm starting at ByteDance?
If you're cap-subject, ByteDance would register you for the H-1B lottery in March for an October 1 start date, meaning there's roughly a six-month gap between lottery selection and when you can legally begin work. If you're on OPT or a visa with a cap-gap provision, you may be able to bridge that period. Confirm your current status end date with USCIS rules before signing an offer with an October start.
