Tips for Finding Physics Jobs at Centra Health
Align your credentials to U.S. clinical standards
Healthcare employers like Centra Health evaluate Physics candidates against CAMPEP-accredited training and ABR board eligibility. Confirm your credentials are recognized in the U.S. before applying, since clinical physics roles often require documented equivalency for international degrees.
Target roles that match your visa timeline
Centra Health sponsors multiple visa types, so identify openings that fit your current authorization stage. F-1 OPT or CPT roles suit candidates still in training, while EB-2 or EB-3 pathways are typically tied to permanent, full-time clinical positions.
Request LCA details before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before an H-1B petition can proceed. Ask the hiring team which prevailing wage level they're filing at for the Physics role so you understand how the offer aligns with DOL wage requirements.
Prepare for PERM before your OPT window closes
If Centra Health initiates a Green Card process through PERM, the labor certification timeline can run 12 to 18 months before USCIS even receives the I-140. Starting those conversations early in your employment protects you from gaps in work authorization.
Use Migrate Mate to find active Physics openings
Physics roles in health systems fill quickly and sponsorship availability isn't always listed in job postings. Use Migrate Mate to filter Centra Health openings by visa type so you only spend time on positions that explicitly support your immigration pathway.
Get your J-1 waiver pathway confirmed early
If you're transitioning off a J-1 visa, Virginia health shortage area designations may support a Conrad 30 waiver, which Centra Health facilities can qualify for. Confirm waiver eligibility with the hiring team before signing a contract, since it affects your two-year home residency obligation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Centra Health sponsor H-1B visas for Physicists?
Centra Health's sponsorship history covers multiple visa categories, and H-1B visa sponsorship for Physics roles is part of how they hire international candidates. Clinical Physics positions, which typically require a master's degree or doctorate in a specialized field, generally satisfy the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies to H-1B petitions. Confirm sponsorship availability directly with the recruiter for the specific role you're applying to.
Which visa types are commonly used for Physics roles at Centra Health?
Centra Health sponsors F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates still completing training, H-1B and TN visa for working professionals, J-1 visa for those in structured exchange programs, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways for permanent placements. Physics roles requiring CAMPEP-accredited training or ABR board eligibility tend to align with EB-2 given the advanced degree requirement, though the pathway depends on the specific position and your qualifications.
How do I apply for Physics jobs at Centra Health?
Search for Physics openings through Centra Health's careers portal and filter by department or clinical service line. When applying, clearly document any board certifications, CAMPEP-accredited training, and U.S. clinical experience in your application materials. If you need visa sponsorship, state that in your cover letter or application so the hiring team can route your file appropriately from the start. Migrate Mate also lists Centra Health Physics roles filtered by visa type.
What qualifications does Centra Health expect for Physics positions?
Most clinical Physics roles at Centra Health require a master's degree or doctorate in Medical Physics, Radiation Physics, or a closely related field from a CAMPEP-accredited program. ABR board certification or active board eligibility is typically required or strongly preferred. Candidates with prior clinical residency experience in a U.S. healthcare setting are at an advantage, particularly for roles in radiation oncology or diagnostic imaging physics.
How do I understand the timeline if Centra Health sponsors my Green Card?
If Centra Health pursues permanent residency through the PERM labor certification route, expect the DOL audit and certification process to take 12 to 18 months before the I-140 immigrant petition reaches USCIS. Depending on your country of birth, priority date backlogs can add years to the process. Starting the Green Card conversation with HR during your first year of employment gives you the most runway to maintain continuous work authorization throughout.
