Verify Your Credentials Meet Virginia Requirements
Healthcare Assistant roles at Centra Health require state-recognized credentials. Before applying, confirm your certifications align with Virginia's Board of Nursing standards, as credential gaps discovered late in the hiring process can delay or derail sponsorship paperwork.
Target Centra Health's High-Volume Facilities First
Centra Health operates multiple care sites across central Virginia with varying staffing needs. Facilities running consistent Healthcare Assistant openings are more likely to have HR teams experienced with sponsorship workflows, making them better entry points than lower-volume locations.
Align Your OPT Start Date with Hiring Timelines
Healthcare roles at Centra Health involve onboarding, background checks, and clinical orientation before your first shift. Apply early enough that your OPT authorization window covers the full onboarding period. USCIS recommends filing OPT applications at least 90 days before your program end date.
Ask Explicitly About PERM Labor Certification Timelines
If you're targeting an EB-3 path, ask Centra Health's HR team whether they initiate PERM before or after an offer is finalized. DOL processing for PERM currently runs over a year, so knowing their internal process helps you plan your status bridge accurately.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Centra Health Openings by Visa Type
Centra Health posts Healthcare Assistant roles across multiple job boards, but not all listings signal sponsorship availability. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Centra Health positions verified for your visa category, so you're applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Prepare Your Employment Verification Documents Before the Offer Stage
Centra Health uses E-Verify for employment eligibility confirmation. Have your Form I-94, visa stamp, and any EAD card ready before the formal offer stage. Delays in submitting these documents can push back your start date and complicate any in-progress sponsorship filing.

Does Centra Health sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants?
Centra Health's sponsorship activity for Healthcare Assistants is concentrated in EB-2, EB-3, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, and J-1 categories rather than H-1B. Healthcare Assistant roles typically fall outside the specialty occupation definition USCIS uses for H-1B eligibility, which generally requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field as a minimum entry requirement. If you're on an H-1B, discuss your situation directly with Centra Health's HR team.
Which visa types does Centra Health commonly sponsor for Healthcare Assistant roles?
Centra Health supports F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT candidates actively, making it a practical option for international students completing health-related programs. TN visa sponsorship is available for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare occupations. For longer-term pathways, Centra Health has a track record with EB-2 and EB-3 green card sponsorship, which suits candidates with clinical experience or advanced credentials seeking permanent residence.
What qualifications does Centra Health expect for Healthcare Assistant positions?
Most Healthcare Assistant roles at Centra Health require a Certified Nursing Assistant credential or equivalent state-recognized certification, along with Basic Life Support certification. Roles in specialty units, such as surgical or ICU support, may require prior acute care experience. International candidates should also confirm their foreign credentials are recognized under Virginia's licensing standards before applying, as Centra Health's HR team will verify this during onboarding.
How do I apply for Healthcare Assistant jobs at Centra Health?
You can browse and apply for Healthcare Assistant openings at Centra Health through their careers portal or through Migrate Mate, which filters Centra Health listings by visa sponsorship type so you can see roles where your specific visa category is supported. When applying, clearly indicate your work authorization status and intended visa pathway in your application, as Centra Health's HR team uses this to route your candidacy to the appropriate sponsorship workflow from the start.
How do I plan my timeline if Centra Health is sponsoring my Green Card as a Healthcare Assistant?
EB-3 sponsorship through Centra Health involves multiple sequential steps: an internal prevailing wage determination, a PERM labor certification filed with DOL (currently taking over a year to process), and then an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. Nationals from countries with backlogged priority dates, including India and China, face additional wait times beyond approval. Start the conversation about green card sponsorship during your offer negotiation, not after you've already started the role.
