What Cognite is Relentless to achieve
We thrive in challenges. We challenge assumptions. We execute with speed and ownership. If you view obstacles as signals to step forward - not step back - you’ll feel at home here. Join us in this venture where AI and data meet ingenuity, and together, we forge the path to a smarter, more connected industrial future.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Cogniters we are looking for: We are looking for a Sr. Manager, Analytics & Operations Engineering based at Global HQ in Tempe, AZ who treats data and analytics as the operating system for a world-class professional services organization—not an IT project. You are an entrepreneurial technical leader who builds data platforms from the ground up, turning enterprise data into decision-ready intelligence for capacity planning, financial forecasting, and strategic execution across a global Value Delivery organization. You are deeply technical in Python and cloud engineering, fluent in services operations (utilization, margin, capacity, revenue recognition), and comfortable independently identifying high-impact problems, designing analytical solutions, and shipping production-grade tools without a product manager or engineering team. You can debug a Salesforce API integration late in the day and present scenario-based capacity models to the Chief Services Officer the next morning, always treating data as leverage to multiply the impact of delivery leaders across regions.
Data platform engineering and infrastructure
- Own the Value Delivery analytics platform: internal dashboards, automated reports, and data pipelines serving leaders across regions, Finance, and executive teams.
- Build and maintain automated data pipelines from Salesforce, NetSuite, and finance data warehouses using Python (Pandas, NumPy) and SQL to deliver clean, reliable datasets.
- Own Azure cloud infrastructure (web app hosting, serverless functions, object storage, managed databases, CI/CD via GitHub Actions, authentication) with end-to-end responsibility for reliability, security, and data quality.
- Integrate with enterprise systems through robust REST, SOQL, and SuiteQL APIs, aligning on data models and definitions with Sales Ops, Finance, and IT.
- Design and build interactive dashboards using Streamlit or similar frameworks that provide real-time visibility into capacity, utilization, project financials, pipeline, and delivery risk.
Services capacity, revenue, and margin forecasting
- Own global capacity forecasting, modeling demand (pipeline, backlog, strategic bets) against resource supply by role, level, and region, and translate outputs into hiring plans, contractor usage, and delivery commitments.
- Support budgeting and reforecasting by performing top-down and bottom-up revenue and margin analysis for the Value Delivery P&L, validating Finance projections against operational data.
- Build financial models that quantify the impact of pricing changes, delivery model shifts, partner mix, and bench strategy, highlighting margin risks and opportunities across the portfolio.
KPI engineering and measurement infrastructure
- Define and operationalize core KPIs for Value Delivery operations (utilization, project margins, capacity vs demand, forecast accuracy, time-to-value, timecard compliance, partner contribution) and maintain a global dashboard for executives.
- Where data is missing, create the tools and processes to capture it and move the organization from anecdote to metric-driven decision-making.
Strategic analysis, automation, and cross-functional partnership
- Conduct targeted analyses and scenario modeling on topics such as partner vs FTE trade-offs, offering profitability, regional efficiency, and pricing optimization, turning findings into concise executive-ready recommendations.
- Proactively identify repetitive workflows across Value Delivery and automate reports, data refreshes, alerts, and self-service tools that reduce ad-hoc analysis and operational friction.
- Serve as the technical partner to the VP, Operations – Value Delivery and Director, Delivery Excellence, ensuring analytics directly inform delivery standards, playbooks, portfolio optimization, and partner performance management.
The Impact you bring to Cognite
You will own the end-to-end analytics and data infrastructure that powers operations for Cognite’s global professional services business. You are the architect, engineer, and operator of a mission-critical analytics platform used daily by Services leaders to make real-time decisions on capacity, utilization, financials, and delivery risk.
Your Success Will Be Measured By Your Ability To
- Build and operate production-grade analytics infrastructure that scales with the business while maintaining high uptime and data reliability.
- Proactively surface insights that drive executive decisions on hiring, pricing, portfolio mix, and risk.
- Eliminate manual operational work through automation, giving leadership time back for strategy and customers.
- Translate complex operational questions into analytical models, scenarios, and clear recommendations.
- Earn trust as the technical partner to non-technical operations leaders, making data accessible and actionable.
- Data-driven operations: You transform Value Delivery from intuition-based to insight-driven, enabling faster, better decisions on capacity, hiring, pricing, and portfolio management.
- Executive leverage: You multiply the impact of senior services leadership by providing the analytical foundation and scenarios for multi-million-dollar investment and go-to-market decisions.
- Operational efficiency: You eliminate large amounts of manual work through automation, freeing leaders to focus on customers and strategy.
- Financial performance: Your models and forecasts improve utilization, profitability, and revenue predictability.
- Scalable infrastructure: You build analytics systems that scale with the business—from 100 to hundreds of delivery professionals—without accumulating technical debt or quality issues.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years in analytics, data engineering, or technical operations within high-growth SaaS, enterprise software, professional services, or management consulting.
- Exceptional Python skills (Pandas, NumPy, ETL, automation) and strong SQL for complex querying and aggregation.
- Hands-on experience with Azure (strongly preferred) or AWS/GCP: web app hosting, serverless functions, object storage, managed databases, and CI/CD (i.e. GitHub Actions).
- Proven ability to build production-grade data pipelines and API integrations (REST, Salesforce/SOQL, NetSuite) with reliability, monitoring, and error handling.
- Professional services or operations analytics domain knowledge (capacity planning, utilization tracking, margin and project economics, resource management).
- Demonstrated success as the sole technical owner of an internal platform, independently translating business problems into technical solutions and tools.

Align your credentials to Cognite's engineering stack
Cognite's engineering roles center on distributed systems, data pipelines, and industrial software platforms. Frame your experience around those domains in your resume and portfolio before applying, since specialty occupation approval depends on demonstrating a clear degree-to-role match.
Target roles that map cleanly to your degree
H-1B specialty occupation requires your degree field to directly relate to the job. A software engineering or computer science background aligns well with Cognite's core roles, but applied math or data engineering degrees need a stronger narrative connecting coursework to the specific position.
Search Cognite openings through Migrate Mate
Filter Cognite's engineering openings by visa type on Migrate Mate to surface roles where sponsorship is actively available, so you're not spending time on applications that won't support your immigration status.
Confirm OPT STEM extension eligibility early
Cognite operates in STEM-classified business activities, which means your F-1 OPT may qualify for a 24-month STEM extension. Verify your degree field and employer E-Verify enrollment are both in order before your initial OPT period ends to avoid a work authorization gap.
Factor the H-1B lottery timeline into your offer negotiation
If you're outside the U.S. or on a non-OPT status, an H-1B petition won't take effect until October 1 following the April lottery. Build that lag into your start date conversation with Cognite's recruiting team so both sides plan around the USCIS cap timeline.
Prepare for PERM documentation if a Green Card path is a priority
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship requires PERM labor certification through DOL before an immigrant petition can be filed. Ask Cognite's talent or immigration team about their standard timeline for initiating PERM after hire, since the process can take one to two years before priority date movement matters.

Find Engineering at Cognite JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Cognite sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Cognite sponsors H-1B visas for qualifying engineering roles. Eligibility depends on the position meeting USCIS specialty occupation standards, which requires a direct relationship between the role's duties and a specific bachelor's degree field. Software engineering, computer science, and data engineering backgrounds typically satisfy that requirement for Cognite's core technical positions.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Cognite?
Apply directly through Cognite's careers page or browse their open engineering roles on Migrate Mate, where you can filter by visa sponsorship availability. Before applying, tailor your resume to reflect experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or industrial data platforms, since those are central to most of Cognite's engineering openings.
Which visa types does Cognite commonly use for Engineering roles?
Cognite sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT for engineering hires, and supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-term immigration. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations under USMCA. F-1 OPT candidates at Cognite may also qualify for the 24-month STEM extension given the company's technical focus.
What qualifications does Cognite expect for sponsored Engineering positions?
Most sponsored engineering roles at Cognite require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related technical discipline. Practical experience with cloud-native development, data infrastructure, or industrial software is consistently emphasized across their job postings. Visa sponsorship is tied to specialty occupation approval, so the degree-to-role match carries weight beyond just hiring criteria.
How do I plan around the H-1B cap timeline when targeting Cognite?
USCIS opens H-1B registration in March each year, with cap-subject petitions taking effect October 1 if selected. If you're finishing OPT or between statuses, coordinate your application timeline so Cognite can file during the April window. Candidates already in H-1B status at another employer can transfer to Cognite outside the cap cycle without waiting for the next lottery.
