Find Operations at Duke University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Duke University sponsor H-1B visas for Operations roles?
Yes, Duke University sponsors H-1B visas for Operations positions where the role qualifies as a specialty occupation. Duke has an established international hiring process and works with immigration counsel to file H-1B petitions. Not every Operations role will meet USCIS specialty occupation standards, so confirming eligibility with Duke's HR team before investing heavily in the application process is advisable.
How do I apply for Operations jobs at Duke University?
Applications go through Duke's official careers portal at duke.edu/careers. You can also browse sponsorship-eligible Operations openings at Duke through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa type. When applying, tailor your resume to the specific unit posting the role, whether that's Facilities Management, Procurement, or another Operations function, and address relevant experience directly in your cover letter.
Which visa types does Duke University commonly use for Operations hires?
Duke sponsors H-1B visas for Operations roles that meet specialty occupation criteria, E-3 visas for eligible Australian citizens, and employment-based immigrant visas including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term hires. The right pathway depends on your nationality, degree level, and the specific job's requirements. Duke's HR and immigration team can advise on which category fits your circumstances.
What qualifications does Duke University expect for sponsored Operations roles?
Duke typically looks for candidates with a relevant bachelor's degree or higher in fields like business administration, engineering, public administration, or supply chain management, depending on the specific role. For H-1B sponsorship in particular, the position must require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific specialty. Relevant experience in a university, health system, or large institutional environment strengthens your profile significantly.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for Operations roles at Duke?
For H-1B, Duke must file before the April 1 cap deadline for an October 1 start, though cap-exempt situations exist for candidates already on H-1B. E-3 processing through a U.S. consulate abroad typically takes two to six weeks. PERM-based Green Card filings through DOL currently take well over a year before reaching the I-140 stage at USCIS. Starting conversations with Duke's HR team about your timeline early in the process avoids surprises.
