Align your credentials with Duke's lab requirements
Duke's Technician roles often sit within specific research cores or clinical departments that require documented hands-on experience with equipment or protocols. Tailor your resume to match the technical skills listed, not just your degree field.
Target Duke's departmental job postings directly
Duke hires Technicians across dozens of schools and research centers, each posting separately. Searching by department, not just job title, surfaces roles that general job boards miss and lets you identify which units are actively hiring.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Duke's open Technician roles
Filtering by employer and visa type saves time during a focused job search. Migrate Mate lets you surface Duke's Technician openings that are tagged for visa sponsorship, so you're applying where sponsorship is already on the table.
Anticipate DOL prevailing wage requirements for your role
Duke must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before your H-1B petition. Knowing the prevailing wage for your specific Technician job code and location helps you assess offer competitiveness and flag any discrepancies early.

Find Technician at Duke University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Duke University sponsor H-1B visas for Technicians?
Yes, Duke University sponsors H-1B visas for Technician roles that meet USCIS specialty occupation requirements. The role must require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field related to the position. Duke's Office for International Students and Scholars manages the filing process, so sponsorship support is institutionally established rather than left to individual hiring managers.
How do I apply for Technician jobs at Duke University?
Applications go through Duke's official careers portal at Duke Careers, where Technician roles are posted by individual departments and research centers. You can also browse Duke's open Technician positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which helps you focus your applications on roles where sponsorship is already confirmed before you invest time in the process.
Which visa types does Duke University use for Technician roles?
Duke sponsors H-1B visas for most international Technicians, and E-3 visas for Australian citizens, which bypass the H-1B lottery entirely and can offer a faster path to employment authorization. For roles that lead to permanent positions, Duke has also supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, though that process involves PERM labor certification through the DOL and a longer timeline.
What qualifications does Duke expect for Technician roles?
Requirements vary by department, but most Technician postings at Duke expect hands-on experience with specific equipment, laboratory protocols, or clinical procedures relevant to that unit's research focus. A bachelor's degree in a related scientific field is common for H-1B eligibility. Some roles, particularly in research cores, also expect familiarity with safety compliance, data recording standards, or regulated lab environments.
How do I time the sponsorship process when starting at Duke?
If you're changing from another visa status, Duke's international office typically needs several months of lead time to file your H-1B petition. Cap-subject H-1B filings must be submitted by April 1 for an October 1 start, so an offer by January or February is realistic for that cycle. E-3 applicants face fewer timing constraints since there's no annual cap, but consular appointment wait times still factor into your start date.
