Match your degree field precisely to your role
Jane Street's E-3 roles in quantitative research and trading require a direct connection between your degree field and the position. A mathematics or computer science degree supporting a quant role satisfies specialty occupation requirements. A general business degree for the same role likely won't hold up under scrutiny.
Expect a technical-first interview process
Jane Street evaluates candidates through intensive problem-solving rounds before any visa conversation begins. Prepare for mathematical reasoning and programming challenges specific to their trading and research environment. Clearing the technical bar is what gets the E-3 sponsorship conversation started, so treat it as the primary gate.
Confirm your LCA wage tier before negotiating salary
Jane Street's E-3 filings must meet DOL prevailing wage requirements for your specific role and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your job title and ZIP code before salary discussions. Accepting below the certified wage level puts your E-3 status at risk.
Target roles where Jane Street files most actively
Jane Street's E-3 sponsorship concentrates in software engineering, quantitative research, and trading roles. Applications for operational or non-technical support functions are far less likely to result in sponsorship. Search Migrate Mate to see which specific job titles at Jane Street carry active E-3 LCA filing history from DOL data.
Secure your DS-160 and LCA before consulate scheduling
Your employer's certified LCA from DOL must be in hand before you submit the DS-160 or book your consulate appointment. Jane Street's legal team handles the LCA filing, but you're responsible for confirming certification before scheduling. Jumping ahead without it wastes your appointment slot and delays your start date.
Document equivalent qualification if your degree is outside the U.S.
An Australian three-year bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 specialty occupation purposes. Have your credentials assessed by a recognized evaluation service before your interview. Consular officers at Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth may request written evidence of equivalency for technical roles.
Jane Street E-3 Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Jane Street Group sponsor E-3 visas?
Yes, Jane Street Group sponsors E-3 visas for Australian nationals in qualifying specialty occupation roles. Their sponsorship activity centers on technical functions including software engineering, quantitative research, and trading. If your role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field, Jane Street is a viable E-3 sponsor to pursue.
Which roles at Jane Street Group typically qualify for E-3 sponsorship?
E-3 sponsorship at Jane Street Group is concentrated in roles requiring strong quantitative or technical credentials: software engineers, quantitative researchers, and trading roles where a specialized degree is a genuine job requirement. Generalist or operational roles without a clear degree-to-job-duty connection are unlikely to meet the specialty occupation standard USCIS applies to E-3 petitions.
How do I navigate the E-3 application process after receiving an offer from Jane Street Group?
After an offer is extended, Jane Street's legal team files the Labor Condition Application with DOL. Once the LCA is certified, you complete the DS-160, schedule your consulate appointment in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth, and attend your visa interview. You don't need USCIS to approve a petition before your interview, which keeps the timeline shorter than an H-1B visa path.
How long does E-3 sponsorship typically take at a firm like Jane Street Group?
DOL certifies the LCA within seven business days in most cases. Consulate appointment availability drives the overall timeline, with wait times varying by location and season. From offer acceptance to a visa stamp, most candidates at major financial firms complete the process in four to eight weeks, though peak periods at Sydney and Melbourne can extend that window.
How do I find open E-3 roles at Jane Street Group?
Start with Jane Street's careers page and filter for roles that align with your technical background in quantitative research or engineering. To verify which specific job titles carry E-3 LCA filing history at Jane Street, use Migrate Mate, which surfaces DOL Labor Condition Application data by employer so you can target roles with a confirmed sponsorship track record before applying.
What is the prevailing wage for E-3 sponsorship at Jane Street Group?
E-3 employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, determined when they file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, ensuring Australian hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
