Frame your experience around dispatch operations
First Student's Customer Support roles often sit at the intersection of scheduling, driver coordination, and district communication. Tailor your resume to show experience with high-volume inbound contacts, routing issues, or service escalations in a logistics or transit environment.
Target First Student's regional hiring hubs
First Student operates hundreds of local depots across the U.S., and Customer Support hiring is often driven by regional operations managers, not a central HR team. Applying to specific locations with active contracts increases your visibility beyond the general careers portal.
Confirm your work authorization before the offer stage
First Student uses E-Verify for employment eligibility. Before an offer is extended, have your current status documentation ready and be clear about whether you need sponsorship from day one or only for a future Green Card filing.
Understand how PERM fits a support staff career path
Permanent residency sponsorship for Customer Support roles typically runs through the PERM labor certification process under EB-2 or EB-3. DOL requires the employer to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available, so your tenure and specialized knowledge of transit operations strengthens the filing.
Build your case around transportation-specific credentials
Before applying, gather any certifications tied to transit customer service, fleet dispatch software, or school transportation compliance. These signal domain expertise that generalist support candidates lack and give First Student a stronger basis for sponsorship justification under PERM.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open roles by location
Customer Support openings at First Student are distributed across dozens of U.S. markets and don't always stay posted long. Use Migrate Mate to filter and track sponsorship-eligible positions at First Student as they become available in your target region.

Find Customer Support at First Student JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does First Student sponsor H-1B visas for Customer Support roles?
First Student's sponsorship activity for Customer Support positions is focused on permanent residency pathways rather than H-1B. Customer Support roles in transportation logistics typically don't meet the specialty occupation threshold USCIS requires for H-1B approval, which generally demands a position requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Candidates already holding H-1B status through a prior employer may be better positioned.
Which visa types are commonly used for Customer Support roles at First Student?
First Student's sponsorship for Customer Support staff centers on employment-based Green Card categories, primarily EB-2 and EB-3, processed through the PERM labor certification route with the DOL. These are immigrant visa pathways suited to longer-tenured employees rather than new hires seeking immediate work authorization. If you need near-term work authorization, you'll want to arrive with an existing status you can maintain while pursuing permanent residency.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Customer Support positions at First Student?
First Student typically looks for Customer Support candidates with experience in high-volume service environments, particularly those involving scheduling, escalation handling, or coordination with multiple stakeholders. Familiarity with school transportation operations, routing systems, or district contract management is a differentiator. Most roles don't require a specific degree, but demonstrated experience in logistics or public transit customer-facing work carries weight in both hiring and sponsorship eligibility.
How do I apply for Customer Support jobs at First Student?
Applications go through First Student's careers portal, where roles are listed by location and department. Because Customer Support hiring is regionally driven, filtering by specific states or metro areas where First Student holds active school district contracts improves your results. Migrate Mate aggregates these openings and filters for sponsorship-eligible positions, which saves time if you're specifically targeting roles where a Green Card pathway is on the table.
How do I navigate the timeline between starting at First Student and receiving sponsorship?
Green Card sponsorship through PERM is rarely offered to new hires immediately. Most employees work in their Customer Support role for a period before the employer initiates the PERM process with the DOL. After PERM certification, the I-140 petition is filed with USCIS, and wait times for a visa number depend on your country of birth and the EB category. Indian and Chinese nationals face significantly longer backlogs under EB-3.
