Frame your experience around fleet operations
First Student's customer service teams field calls about bus routing, delays, and driver dispatch. Highlight any background in transport coordination, logistics call centers, or multi-shift scheduling in your resume to align with what hiring managers are actually looking for.
Target districts with high route density
First Student operates contracts across hundreds of school districts. Roles in larger metro markets tend to have more hiring activity and more established HR processes, which matters when you need an employer familiar with navigating an employment-based petition.
Clarify your visa category fit early
Customer Service roles at First Student have been sponsored under EB-2 and EB-3 pathways. Before your first interview, confirm with the recruiter whether the role requires a bachelor's degree or qualifies through progressive work experience under EB-3's less stringent standard.
Prepare for PERM before the offer stage
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship at employers like First Student requires the DOL's PERM labor certification process. Gather employment verification letters, transcripts, and any professional references now. Delays in documentation after an offer can push PERM timelines significantly.
Ask about in-house legal support during hiring
Large transportation contractors often use dedicated immigration counsel to manage PERM filings. Ask the HR team during the offer stage whether immigration legal fees are covered and who manages USCIS correspondence, so there are no surprises after you accept.
Use Migrate Mate to find open roles
Customer Service openings at First Student are spread across dozens of regional locations and post frequently. Search Migrate Mate to filter active roles at First Student that align with your sponsorship eligibility, so you're applying to positions with a real pathway.

Does First Student sponsor H-1B visas for Customer Service?
First Student's sponsorship activity for Customer Service roles has been documented under employment-based immigrant visa categories, specifically EB-2 and EB-3, rather than the H-1B nonimmigrant classification. If you're currently on an H-1B and exploring a transfer, confirm with their HR team whether the specific role you're targeting supports that status, as it varies by position and location.
Which visa types are commonly used for Customer Service roles at First Student?
Customer Service positions at First Student have been supported through EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories, both of which require the employer to complete a PERM labor certification through the Department of Labor before USCIS can adjudicate the petition. EB-3 is the more common pathway for roles that qualify through work experience rather than advanced degrees, which suits many customer service positions in transportation operations.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Customer Service roles at First Student?
Most Customer Service roles at First Student involve handling route inquiries, communicating with school district contacts, and coordinating with dispatch teams. Candidates with experience in transportation, logistics, or high-volume call center environments have a stronger fit. Bilingual ability, particularly Spanish, is frequently valued given the demographics of the communities First Student serves across its U.S. operations.
How do I apply for Customer Service jobs at First Student?
You can browse and apply for Customer Service openings at First Student through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles with documented sponsorship history so you can focus your search on positions with a real immigration pathway. When applying, tailor your application to reflect experience with transportation workflows or community-facing communication, and be upfront about your visa status early in the process to avoid mismatches later.
How long does the sponsorship process take for an EB-3 role at First Student?
The EB-3 process starts with PERM labor certification through the DOL, which typically takes six to eighteen months depending on audit risk and case complexity. After PERM approval, your employer files an I-140 petition with USCIS. If your priority date is current under the visa bulletin, you can proceed to adjust status or consular processing. Total timelines vary significantly based on your country of birth and current backlog.
