Align your credentials with PERM requirements early
PERM labor certification requires your qualifications to match the job description exactly. Review First Student's posted Procurement roles and confirm your degree field and years of experience mirror the stated minimums before you apply.
Target First Student's fleet and logistics sourcing teams
First Student's Procurement function centers on vehicle fleet contracts, fuel purchasing, and maintenance supplier relationships. Framing your experience around transportation vendor management or fleet supply chain makes your application directly relevant to their open roles.
Clarify sponsorship intent before the offer stage
First Student's HR teams handle sponsorship decisions at the offer level, not during screening. Ask your recruiter directly whether the specific Procurement role is open to EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship so you're not advancing through interviews without that confirmation.
Use Migrate Mate to filter active Procurement openings
Searching broadly across job boards makes it hard to isolate roles where sponsorship is realistic. Migrate Mate filters First Student's Procurement listings by visa sponsorship history, saving you time targeting positions that align with your immigration pathway.
Understand the DOL prevailing wage process for your role level
First Student must file a prevailing wage determination with the DOL before PERM can begin. Senior Procurement titles like Strategic Sourcing Manager carry higher wage levels than Analyst roles, which affects both your negotiating position and the employer's timeline expectations.
Build a document package that supports a specialty occupation case
Procurement roles in transportation sometimes face scrutiny over whether they qualify as specialty occupations. Gather transcripts, professional certifications like CPSM or CSCP, and evidence that your role requires a specific degree field, not just any bachelor's degree.

Find Procurement at First Student JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does First Student sponsor H-1B visas for Procurement roles?
First Student's documented sponsorship activity for Procurement roles has been through permanent residency pathways, specifically EB-2 and EB-3, rather than H-1B. If you're currently on H-1B status with another employer, you could transfer that status independently, but you'd want to confirm with First Student's HR whether they'll support ongoing H-1B extensions or a Green Card filing for a specific Procurement position.
Which visa types are commonly used for Procurement roles at First Student?
First Student's Procurement sponsorship has followed the EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories, which lead to a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process. EB-3 applies to roles requiring a bachelor's degree, while EB-2 covers positions requiring an advanced degree or equivalent experience. Your eligibility depends on the specific job title and requirements attached to the role you're targeting.
What qualifications and experience does First Student expect for Procurement roles?
First Student's Procurement team typically looks for experience in sourcing, vendor negotiation, and contract management, ideally within transportation, fleet operations, or a similarly asset-heavy industry. A bachelor's degree in supply chain, business, or a related field is generally expected for mid-level roles. Professional certifications like CPSM or CSCP can strengthen your profile, particularly if your degree field doesn't directly match the job description.
How do I apply for Procurement jobs at First Student?
You can find and apply for First Student's Procurement openings through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles where visa sponsorship is part of the hiring picture. Once you identify a relevant position, apply through First Student's careers portal and be direct in your cover letter about your need for sponsorship. Following up with the recruiter after submitting your application can help confirm whether the specific role is open to EB-2 or EB-3 filing.
How long does the Green Card process take if First Student sponsors me for a Procurement role?
The PERM labor certification stage alone typically takes six to twelve months with the DOL, after which First Student would file an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. If you're from a country without significant Green Card backlogs, the total timeline from PERM filing to a Green Card can run two to four years. Applicants born in India or China face significantly longer waits due to per-country annual limits set by Congress.
