Target operations and logistics roles
First Student's sponsorship activity sits within its core transportation and logistics functions. Focus your search on operations management, fleet coordination, and logistics planning roles where the company has a track record of supporting long-term employment and immigration pathways.
Understand Green Card is the primary pathway
First Student's sponsorship history centers on permanent residency rather than temporary work visas. If you're seeking Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 categories, First Student is worth targeting, but don't expect an H-1B route through this employer.
Demonstrate long-term commitment in your application
Employers who sponsor Green Cards are investing in permanent hires. When applying to First Student, emphasize your intent to build a long-term career in student transportation and logistics, this signals you're worth the sponsorship commitment and reduces perceived hiring risk.
Research which districts and divisions are hiring
First Student operates across hundreds of locations. Sponsorship decisions often depend on regional hiring needs, so identify which districts or divisions are actively recruiting. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsors so you can filter by real sponsorship history and find active openings faster.
Ask about PERM labor certification early
Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 requires PERM labor certification, which takes significant time to complete. Raise the sponsorship conversation early in the interview process so both you and First Student can align on timelines before an offer is made.
Position yourself for roles with skill shortages
PERM sponsorship requires employers to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available. Roles requiring specialized logistics expertise, safety management certifications, or bilingual skills in underserved districts strengthen First Student's ability to justify and complete your sponsorship successfully.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does First Student sponsor H-1B visas?
Based on available sponsorship data, First Student does not have a meaningful history of sponsoring H-1B visas. The company's immigration support is focused on permanent residency pathways rather than temporary nonimmigrant work visas. If H-1B sponsorship is your primary need, First Student is unlikely to be the right fit, and you should look at employers with an active H-1B filing history.
What visa types does First Student sponsor?
First Student's sponsorship activity is concentrated in the Green Card space, specifically through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based immigrant visa categories. These pathways are designed for permanent employment and require the employer to go through the PERM labor certification process. If you're eligible for EB-2 or EB-3 and seeking a long-term role in transportation and logistics, First Student may be worth pursuing.
Which roles or departments at First Student are most likely to receive visa sponsorship?
Sponsorship at First Student tends to align with its core operational functions, roles in fleet management, operations coordination, logistics planning, and transportation safety. Positions that require specialized expertise or where qualified local candidates are limited are strongest candidates for PERM-based Green Card sponsorship. Entry-level driver roles are unlikely to be sponsored, so focus on professional and management-level openings.
How do I find open jobs at First Student that offer visa sponsorship?
The most reliable approach is to filter for First Student directly on Migrate Mate, which aggregates verified sponsoring employers and their open roles based on real immigration filing data. This lets you see active job listings from companies with confirmed Green Card sponsorship history, saving you time compared to browsing general job boards where sponsorship details are rarely disclosed upfront.
How do I approach the Green Card sponsorship conversation with First Student during the hiring process?
Bring it up before accepting an offer, not after. Ask the recruiter or hiring manager whether the role is eligible for employment-based Green Card sponsorship and whether the company has an immigration attorney on retainer. Frame it as a long-term commitment question rather than a demand. First Student's sponsorship history shows it does support permanent residency in the right circumstances, so the conversation is worth having openly.
