Align your credentials to DOT standards
First Student operates under Department of Transportation regulations, so framing your logistics credentials around DOT compliance, fleet safety protocols, and transportation management systems strengthens your application before you submit a single document.
Target regional operations hubs directly
First Student runs hundreds of regional depots across the U.S., and hiring decisions for logistics roles often sit with regional operations managers. Applying to location-specific openings, not just the national careers portal, puts your application closer to the actual decision-maker.
Search sponsoring employers on Migrate Mate
Filter by Transportation and Logistics on Migrate Mate to surface First Student's open logistics positions alongside their verified sponsorship history, so you're applying with full visibility into which roles are realistically accessible to visa-dependent candidates.
Understand the PERM timeline before accepting an offer
EB-2 and EB-3 sponsorship requires PERM labor certification through DOL, which can take a year or more before USCIS even receives the petition. If you're already in the U.S. on OPT or another status, confirm how that timeline interacts with your current work authorization before the offer stage.
Prepare a transportation-specific resume format
Logistics hiring managers at student transportation companies prioritize experience with routing software, fleet dispatch, and contract compliance over general supply chain credentials. Structure your resume around those specific competencies, not a generic operations summary.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment during screening
First Student is a federal contractor and uses E-Verify to confirm work authorization for new hires. If you're in a grace period or OPT gap, clarify your status before the background check stage to avoid delays that could jeopardize a conditional offer.

Find Logistics at First Student JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does First Student sponsor H-1B visas for Logistics roles?
First Student's sponsorship activity for logistics roles has been concentrated in employment-based Green Card categories rather than H-1B. Logistics positions at First Student tend to be classified under operational and management functions rather than specialty occupations, which is the threshold H-1B requires. If you're currently H-1B eligible through another employer, transferring is possible, but Green Card sponsorship is the more documented pathway here.
Which visa types are commonly used for Logistics roles at First Student?
First Student's employment-based sponsorship for logistics roles falls under EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card categories. EB-3 is the more common route for roles requiring a bachelor's degree or skilled work experience. EB-2 applies when the position requires an advanced degree or demonstrated exceptional expertise. Both pathways require PERM labor certification through DOL before USCIS adjudicates the immigrant petition.
What qualifications and experience are expected for Logistics roles at First Student?
First Student logistics roles typically require a background in transportation operations, fleet management, or supply chain coordination. Familiarity with routing software and DOT regulatory compliance is frequently cited in job descriptions. Management-level roles often expect prior experience overseeing drivers or depot-level operations. A bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain, or a related field strengthens both your candidacy and the PERM classification for sponsored roles.
How do I apply for Logistics jobs at First Student?
Browse current logistics openings at First Student through Migrate Mate, which surfaces verified sponsorship-eligible positions and filters by visa type so you can identify roles accessible to international candidates. When applying directly, target region-specific postings rather than the general careers page, as logistics hiring at First Student is decentralized. Tailor your application to transportation operations competencies, and be prepared for a multi-stage screening process that includes background checks and E-Verify verification.
How do I plan my timeline around First Student's Green Card sponsorship process?
Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 starts with PERM labor certification, which DOL typically processes over several months to over a year depending on audit risk. After PERM approval, USCIS adjudicates the I-140 petition, and depending on your country of birth, an immigrant visa number may not be immediately available. Starting this process while maintaining valid work authorization, such as H-1B status with another employer, is the most practical way to bridge the timeline without gaps.
