Align Your Credentials to U.S. HR Standards
Gap's HR teams operate under U.S. labor law frameworks, so translate your experience into recognizable terms: HRIS systems, I-9 compliance, and onboarding workflows. Certifications like SHRM-CP signal fluency in U.S. HR practice and strengthen your application.
Target Gap's High-Volume Hiring Locations
Gap concentrates HR Assistant roles near its distribution hubs and regional corporate offices. Prioritizing locations like San Francisco, New York, and Columbus increases your odds of finding open requisitions that are actively staffed and more likely to move through sponsorship approval quickly.
Understand Which Visa Category Fits Your Profile
Gap sponsors multiple visa types for HR roles, including H-1B, E-3 for Australians, TN for Canadians and Mexicans, and F-1 OPT. Knowing which category applies to your nationality before your first interview lets you address sponsorship eligibility confidently without stalling the offer process.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Sponsored HR Roles at Gap
Not every Gap HR posting is flagged as visa-friendly on general job boards. Migrate Mate filters specifically for roles and employers with a sponsorship track record, so you're applying where a pathway actually exists rather than guessing from a job description.
Time Your Application Around the H-1B Cap Window
If you need H-1B sponsorship, USCIS registrations open in March for an October 1 start date. Gap's HR hiring cycles often align with back-to-school and holiday season planning, so targeting applications in November through January gives you time to convert an offer into a filed petition.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During the Offer Stage
Gap's HR department handles internal immigration coordination, so ask your recruiter directly whether the role supports your specific visa category and whether they cover premium processing. Getting this confirmed before you sign avoids delays after the offer letter is issued.

Find Human Resources Assistant at Gap JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Gap sponsor H-1B visas for Human Resources Assistants?
Yes, Gap sponsors H-1B visas for Human Resources Assistant roles. HR Assistant positions at Gap typically qualify as specialty occupations when the role requires a bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field. Gap's internal immigration team coordinates the Labor Condition Application filing with DOL and the H-1B petition with USCIS, so the process is handled in-house rather than outsourced.
How do I apply for Human Resources Assistant jobs at Gap?
You can search and apply through Gap Inc.'s careers portal directly, or use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Gap HR Assistant openings that have a confirmed visa sponsorship track record. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight HRIS experience, onboarding or scheduling support, and any U.S. labor compliance exposure, since those are the competencies Gap's retail HR teams rely on most.
Which visa types does Gap commonly sponsor for Human Resources Assistant roles?
Gap sponsors a range of visa categories for HR Assistant positions, including H-1B, H-1B1 for Chilean and Singaporean nationals, E-3 for Australian citizens, TN status for Canadian and Mexican nationals, and F-1 OPT and CPT for current students. For longer-term pathways, Gap has also supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for HR employees who demonstrate sustained performance and business need.
What qualifications does Gap expect for a sponsored Human Resources Assistant role?
Gap typically looks for a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field for roles that qualify for visa sponsorship. Practical experience with HRIS platforms, I-9 and E-Verify compliance, employee records management, or retail workforce scheduling strengthens your candidacy. Familiarity with high-volume, hourly workforce environments is particularly relevant given the scale of Gap's retail and distribution operations.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining Gap as a Human Resources Assistant?
Timeline depends on your visa category. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS can take up to 90 days, so apply early. TN status for Canadians can be granted at the port of entry with the right documentation. H-1B sponsorship follows USCIS's standard timeline of three to six months, or two to three weeks with premium processing. Gap's HR team coordinates internally, but you should confirm processing elections during the offer stage.
