Align your resume to EB-2 or EB-3
Academy Sports + Outdoors files Green Cards through both EB-2 and EB-3 pathways. EB-2 suits roles requiring advanced degrees or exceptional ability, while EB-3 covers skilled workers. Matching your credentials to the right category before applying reduces PERM delays and RFE risk.
Target e-commerce and technology roles
Green Card sponsorship at Academy Sports + Outdoors concentrates in corporate and technology functions, including software engineering, data analytics, and digital merchandising. Retail operations and store-level roles rarely receive sponsorship, so focus your search on headquarters-based and e-commerce platform positions.
Understand the PERM labor certification step
Most Green Card filings at retail and e-commerce employers require PERM, a DOL process that certifies no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role. Your employer must run recruitment steps in a defined order, so expect six to twelve months before USCIS petition filing begins.
Research prevailing wages before negotiating
Your offered salary must meet the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up wage levels for your specific role in the Houston metro area, where Academy Sports + Outdoors is headquartered, before entering any compensation discussion.
Use Migrate Mate to identify Green Card filing history
Before accepting an offer, verify that Academy Sports + Outdoors has an active Green Card sponsorship track record in your specific job category. Migrate Mate surfaces employer-level Green Card filing data by occupation, so you can confirm sponsorship patterns before committing to a role.
Secure written sponsorship commitment early
Green Card sponsorship is employer-initiated and discretionary. During the offer stage, ask your hiring manager or HR contact directly whether the role is eligible for Green Card sponsorship and whether the company has a formal immigration policy, rather than assuming sponsorship follows from an H-1B transfer.
Academy Sports + Outdoors Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Academy Sports + Outdoors sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Academy Sports + Outdoors sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying corporate and technology roles. Sponsorship is not offered for all positions and is concentrated in functions such as software engineering, data analytics, and e-commerce operations. You'll need to confirm sponsorship eligibility during the offer process, as it's determined role by role.
Which departments at Academy Sports + Outdoors are most likely to sponsor Green Cards?
Sponsorship at Academy Sports + Outdoors is most common in technology, digital commerce, finance, and corporate merchandising. Roles in store operations and distribution centers are unlikely to receive Green Card sponsorship. Focusing your application on headquarters-based positions in Houston or remote corporate roles gives you the strongest shot at employer-sponsored permanent residence.
How do I start the Green Card process at Academy Sports + Outdoors?
The process begins with your employer filing a PERM labor certification with the DOL, which can take six to twelve months. Once certified, Academy Sports + Outdoors files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. If you're already on H-1B visa there, your priority date starts with the I-140 filing, not the PERM stage.
How long does Green Card sponsorship take at Academy Sports + Outdoors?
The full timeline depends on your country of birth and the EB category. EB-3 petitions for workers born in high-demand countries can face multi-year backlogs. PERM itself takes six to twelve months before USCIS filing. You can track your priority date against the monthly Visa Bulletin published by USCIS to estimate your wait.
How do I find open Green Card jobs at Academy Sports + Outdoors?
Search Migrate Mate to filter for Academy Sports + Outdoors roles by visa sponsorship type, including Green Card. Look specifically at technology, analytics, and corporate business roles, as these are the positions most likely to carry sponsorship eligibility. Confirm sponsorship intent with the recruiter before advancing through the interview process.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Academy Sports + Outdoors?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
