Match your credentials to EB-2 or EB-3
Cleveland-Cliffs files under both EB-2 and EB-3, with EB-3 common for skilled production and technical roles and EB-2 reserved for positions requiring advanced degrees. Confirm your degree level and job duties align with the category before applying, since mismatches delay PERM certification.
Document your specialty for PERM recruitment
PERM requires Cleveland-Cliffs to prove no qualified U.S. workers are available for your role. Roles in metallurgical engineering, process control, or materials science narrow the candidate pool, so document niche technical skills and certifications upfront to support the employer's recruitment file.
Verify prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Cleveland-Cliffs must pay the DOL-certified prevailing wage throughout your Green Card process. Use OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your occupation and metro area before salary discussions, so your offer lands at or above the threshold that PERM will require.
Search verified Green Card employers on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter employers with active Green Card filing history in manufacturing and steel. Seeing Cleveland-Cliffs's sponsorship pattern by role type helps you target departments where filings are concentrated, so you're applying where sponsorship is an established practice, not a one-off exception.
Ask HR which roles have priority dates pending
Some Cleveland-Cliffs positions already have I-140 approvals or PERM cases in progress. Ask the recruiting team whether the role you're interviewing for is an established sponsorship track, since stepping into an active case can cut years off your wait compared to starting from scratch.
Account for PERM and I-140 timelines before accepting
PERM labor certification alone can take six to twelve months, with I-140 adjudication following. Factor this into any offer timeline, especially if you're transitioning from H-1B visa status, so your work authorization stays valid through each filing stage without gaps.
Cleveland-Cliffs Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Cleveland-Cliffs sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Cleveland-Cliffs sponsors Green Cards for qualifying employees, primarily in engineering, metallurgy, and skilled technical roles tied to its steel and manufacturing operations. Sponsorship is tied to specific positions rather than offered company-wide, so candidates should confirm the role is eligible during the offer stage.
Which departments at Cleveland-Cliffs typically receive Green Card sponsorship?
Green Card filings at Cleveland-Cliffs are concentrated in roles that require specialized technical expertise, including metallurgical engineering, process engineering, materials science, and maintenance technology. Corporate and plant-level roles requiring advanced degrees or hard-to-fill technical skills are most likely to qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship.
How does the Green Card application process work at Cleveland-Cliffs?
Cleveland-Cliffs typically follows the PERM labor certification route, where the employer conducts a DOL-supervised recruitment process to demonstrate no qualified U.S. workers are available. After PERM approval, the company files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. You then wait for a visa number to become current before filing for adjustment of status.
How long does the Green Card process take at Cleveland-Cliffs?
The timeline depends on your country of birth and the EB category. PERM labor certification takes six to twelve months, and I-140 adjudication adds several more. For EB-3 applicants born in high-demand countries, priority date backlogs can extend the total wait significantly. USCIS publishes monthly visa bulletin updates that show current priority date movement.
How do I find open roles at Cleveland-Cliffs that include Green Card sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you filter manufacturing employers by Green Card filing history, helping you identify which Cleveland-Cliffs roles and locations have an established sponsorship track. Cross-reference open postings with the company's historical filing patterns to prioritize applications for positions where Green Card sponsorship is a documented part of the hiring process.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Cleveland-Cliffs?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
